Fmr. NFL Union Head: Players’ Right to Kneel “Supersedes” League Rules
FinkelBlog ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 05/24/2018 5:03:21 AM PDT by governsleastgovernsbest

George Martin, the former head of the NFL players’ union, seems confused about the Constitution. Martin was interviewed on CNN this morning regarding the new NFL rule pursuant to which teams can be fined if players kneel during the Anthem. When Chris Cuomo pointed out that “the league is a private concession; they can make their own rules,” Martin responded:

“I think they have the right to make those rules. And I think we have the right to either adhere to them or not. And I think that our right supersedes theirs.”

I frankly don’t care anymore what the NFL does! I’m done watching or attending any NFL event!

Correction:

I've boycotted the NFL over the past two seasons and will continue that boycott!

BOYCOTT THE NFL!™

They can’t just fire them, as they are union. The new rule’s language is not in the current collective bargaining agreement. The NFL will back down. They’re just pretending to care to keep fans($).

Roger Goodell and the NFL have mismanaged this issue beyond belief. Now the owner of the Jet’s says he will pay any fines for kneeling or failing to stand. The defiance and turmoil will continue because the league has shown that it will not simply assert its rights as an employer to enforce a code of conduct.

The illogic of racists being dedicated NFL fans defies comprehension. A racist wouldn’t follow a league in which the majority of the players are black millionaires with attitude. The issue wasn’t racism that turned off fans. It is a lack of respect for patriotic values which is exhibited by the arrogant elitists who kneel.

Agreed, and their lack of a more serious stance will invite more protesters and will dig the NFL deeper. A case study in how PC can ruin and organization. Starbucks is next, right behind Dick's.

My right not to be subject to left-wing nonsense supersedes my interest in anything NFL.

I quit watching after the infamous "wardrobe malfunction". The Detroit Lions I quit watching about 15-20 years before that. ( I'd rather pick small rocks out of my car tires.)

My Sundays have been fantastic ever since.

Another penalty would be to separate the potential fan and his credit card by fifteen yards. Call it a cooling off period.

I’ve talked to numerous people about these recent nfl developments, and nothing has changed - NOBODY CARES ANYMORE.

Just like any other business - once you lose a customer it is very, very had to get them back.

Goodell and the players union bet all their chips on the thug/anti-American crap table - they keep rolling snake eyes.

At the prices they charge for parking, food, tickets, various paraphernalia; not to mention the incessant commercials, trash talking commentators...good luck with that.

In other news...

“The NFL, like Starbucks, has opened their stadium bathrooms to all that desire to use them, regardless of whether they have a ticket or not. Anyone telling entrance ticket-taker “I have to potty.” is given immediate access to a restroom, with the simple request that they immediately leave via an exit once they’ve completed their bathroom “duty”.”

“Ticket-holders, upon discovering this new policy, are complaining loudly. They’re claiming the unticketed potty people will not exit the stadium when finished. Some have gone as far as claiming there will be homeless camps under stadium stairs.
One visibly upset season ticket holder said “There’ll be armed guards blocking use of the high-priced skybox potties, so the restroom freeloaders will be clogging up the general admission bathrooms. These restrooms will be pigsties before you know it. There’ll be garbage and crap and urine everywhere. Stalls will be tied up with druggies shooting up. There’ll be used needles on the floors. Children will not be safe to go to the bathroom alone.” “

“Many people are upset with the new policy and vowing to boycott arenas that allow free restroom access.”

That’s true.

IMO the players should face a four game suspension without pay for the first offense, an eight game suspension for the second, and termination with forfeiture of all pay/benefits there after.

How about if fans leave after the anthem with a bunch of kneelers ... Playing in a nearly empty stadium is a wonderful visual to a home audience.

Collective bargaining agreement, they’re union.

Maybe that’s why they’re punishing the team with a fine and not the player(s). Wouldn’t think a collective bargaining agreement would apply in this case.

They can fine the team without paying mind to the CBA.
I believe this is all just to keep/pull back the fans who are upset. Now they’ll say the league did what they could, can’t help some rotten apples...

Another ‘black leader’ heard from.

IF players don’t wish to obey league rules, ...They won’t be in uniform & collecting a monstrous salary to play a GAME with an INFLATABLE OBJECT.

Many will probably be watching from their Mother’s living room, as they won’t have a job earning enough money to have their own house.

Keep on following such “leaders” you guys.

Nothing like watching a slow killing of a very successful part of the USA landscape.

... any team with a kneeler should be assessed a 15 yard penalty to be enforced by the opposing team at any time during that game...

BEST. NFL. SOLUTION. EVER.

Yep, if extremists on the teams 'care' enough - - they'll take the the knee AND the penalty... (let's see how long these extremists care when it's skin off their noses...)
