Last week a woman in Roxbury lost control of her dog, a pit bull mix.
It was in the midst of mauling a woman when police shot it. Also last week in Hyannis, a 22-year-old man was attacked and wounded by a pit bull named Zeus.
In January, in Falmouth, a 1-year-old girl sustained life-threatening injuries when the family pit bull attacked her, biting her in the face. The childs father had to resort to stabbing the animal with a knife to end the attack. After being treated locally she was flown to a Boston hospital for further care.

You besmirch the Dog of Peace® strictly at your own risk. :P
Heelers, Kelpies, Australian Cattle dogs have dingo blood. They can be a handful.
It is not a “natural retention” of “aggressive dog fighting nature” at all.
The traits being discussed over and over again here are being and have been bred deliberately into these dogs for hundreds of years. By dogfighters. For money.
“Gee, it was like so weird. He never did that before. I just don’t get it. He was such a nice.”....... BOY and was just getting his life together.
Sounds familiar doesn’t it.
I went to your link. If lived there I’d be a multiple, repeat offender. My smaller dog, at 90 Lb., is half American Staffordshire Terrier, a quarter Lab, an eighth r, and an eighth Cocker Spaniel. The larger, at 120 lb., is a Great Dane. The AST cross is now 13 and the Dane is 8. I’ had each since he was a puppy. Both are hugely friendly and happily greet all the delivery people, trades people, and the cleaning crew. I call my Dane a “Daney monster love dog.” Yes, they’re both horribly entitled and believe they own me and the house.
Yes, this is a concern.
The deaths, the incredible damage, and the numbers of deaths and maulings are climbing and so is the rate of the climb.
What solution or set of actions do you propose?
Both of your dogs are long-lived for their breed types.
Conceal carry.
Many of these people with these dogs get them because they fear being attacked by thugs.
A friend of mine got a pit-bull for that reason.
About a year ago, a young woman in PA, near me, was killed by her own dog, It was a mix. Pitt Bull and Boxer. On a hot day it stewed on the deck. She came out to play with it, and it launched into attack mode, with a vice grip on her neck. 5 minutes later an off duty cop put a bullet in the animal, but it was too late.
Regulation might be good. Extermination would be better.
Yes, Lisa Green, correct? This was lady was your friend? I am very sorry.
I did a search of dog bites in my county last year. We have people collecting 500,000 from a single incident. We had a 5 year old kid in my town who is getting a ear replaced after a dog ripped it off. Surgeons in Philly were constructing his ear, multiple operations.
So you are right, this stuff is costly. My friend with his Pitt Bull is angry that his home owners insurance is charging him extra premium for the dog. Too bad.
No, she was not a friend, but I have a friend who got a Pitt Bull.
Wow... a triple!
Not saying that we ban anything. Just saying what the situation is. Personally I think it is problematic to say what is and is not a Pitbull.
I do think if your dog randomly attacks anybody, you should go to jail for a long time. You want to own a Pitbull and take that chance, its up to you.
I posted on dog /homeowner insurance rates recently, but the thread was pulled because it was in the wrong category. If it helps you, here is the article:
How’s his fence? Pits jump 6-footers regularly, check out Youtube - “pit bulls jumping fences”.
My brother almost had an eyelid ripped off from a German Shepard. That was back around 1980. He was about 12 years old. What a mess. I picked him up at the house when it happened. I wanted to kill the owner. The owner calls and says theres been an accident, that my brother fell and hit his face on a planter. I get there and he tells me the dog bit his face. Then, All night in a hospital. An hour of surgery to reattach.
“First your dog,then your guns.
Have at itconservatives.”
You’re not serious. At least, I hope you’d not.
One of the main points in the pro-gun argument is that the gun is an object. Without a human picking the gun up, a gun will not move, will not jump up and shoot people all by itself.
You can’t make the same argument about a pit bull. If efforts can’t be instituted to combat dangerous animals...you should be fine with not treating malaria.
Not saying that other breeds don’t maul and kill. This is an excellent example.
The problem being discussed is that one “breed-type” of dog is killing people at the rate of 10 to 11 times their numbers, at a minimum. (appx 6% of the population, and 66% of the deaths), - deaths which did not even appear in any numbers at all until about 30 years ago.
This number does not include human maulings or other pet or livestock maulings or deaths.
First your dog,then your guns.
Have at itconservatives.
