They are right on the merits. But I wonder if Trump isnt calling the bluff of the Democrats about the DACAns. I dont think Democrats want a dealor any deal short of complete amnesty for everyone and anyone, which aint gonna happen. Im guessing the Democrats would rather have the issue to run on in November, thinking they can whip up their base and, if they gain a majority of one or both houses of Congress in November, cram what they want down Trumps throat. Resistance and all that. The last thing they want is for Trump to have a signing ceremony on the White House lawn for an immigration reform that has eluded the last three presidents, and which will necessarily involve compromises that will leave people on both sides unhappy to some extent. (Above all they cant give Trump the satisfaction over The Wall, even though that would be the sensible thing substantively for Democrats to trade away.) But it would remove the issue for Democrats, and likely boost Trump with some Hispanic voters, where some polls show him actually increasing support from election day 2016. Mickey Kaus thinks along the same lines. (See below.)
Im hoping the Democrats are this stupid and will stick with this intransigent position, rather than running on the issues where they might actually find more favor from the general public. Meanwhile, Democrats say they are going to have some DACA kids in the gallery for Trumps upcoming state of the union speech. Some clever person has suggested that Trump mention one of them out by name, note that hes ready to offer them a path to citizenship, and that they should ask Chuck and Nancy why they are standing in the way of it. Stand back, and watch liberal/media heads explode.

Or will get another amnesty with lots of chest thumping about 3-D chess and Supreme Court picks.
Obama and the Dems had ample chance to resolve this issue IN THEIR FAVOR when they were in power, yet they did not. The author is correct - they want an issue, not a solution.
I thought he already did.
I like the idea and Trump has the guts to do it.
My thought when hearing this is that Trump put that on the table to expose the rats to the DACA people who likely want the deal accepted.
I agree with the premise that dems want an issue. The real question though is how does a government shutdown politically affect the dems vs pubs. I think Trump could deal with a shut government for a while however I don’t think the congressional pubs have the stomach for it.
Thus I suspect some sort of dem/pub deal with amnesty and a figleaf over a down payment on a wall which then lands in Trump’s lap to sign or veto.
The issue is not immigration. It’s illegal aliens.
I refuse to refer to criminal invaders as “immigrants”.
That was Ted Kennedy 52 years ago.
I hope so, I just worry about a future congress cutting off funding for the wall. Need to secure that 25B first! lets not get burned again!
The ‘65 Law needs to be dumped down the s*hole.
The Republicans call for an up or down vote on legalizing Obama’s DACA program and nothing more. Temporary residency and work permits with no pathway to citizenship and no amnesty for their parents. The democrats will all vote against it so it cannot get the 60 votes necessary to pass the Senate.
The democrats can then explain to their illegal alien constituents whey they voted to deport them.
ping!
Bump! Most truthful post I’ve seen in awhile.
Ain’t that the truth!!
I used to find that difficult to believe.
Now I’m a believer.

I LOVE the sound of that.
Pass the DAUCA - Dreamers And Unborn Children’s Act. Tie Dreamers to ending abortion. Non-separable legislation. All or nothing.
Then let the Dems figure out who is more important - women or illegals.
The way I heard it on the radio this morning, these “dreamers” have a bunch of years they have to put in, and accomplishments they have to achieve, before they get citizenship. If they don’t make the cut (which most are not expected to do) they get the boot back to Mexico.
