California Rep. Darrell Issa will announce his retirement from Congress on Wednesday, according to sources who confirmed the news to the Washington Examiner.

The OC Daily first reported the California Republican would announce his retirement from his seat later on Wednesday after serving in Congress since 2001. Issa later confirmed the news in a statement.

"Throughout my service, I worked hard and never lost sight of the people our government is supposed to serve. Yet with the support of my family, I have decided that I will not seek re-election in California's 49th District," Issa said.

Ouch. This miserable state might be the reason the House flips.

If the House flips it'll be due in no small part to losing seats in California, New York, New Jersey, and other states that are taking a hit on the SALT deduction elimination.

It's practically impossible to be a Republican in California these days. You'll know it's over when Tom McClintock throws in the towel.

Wonder why all these gutless wimps are retiring?

In 2014 Issa won re-election by 20 percentage points. In 2016 he won re-election by six/tenths of a percent. The district changed and the handwriting was on the wall.

The guy was all hat and no cattle. Really, other than noise, what did this bum accomplish to further the Rule of Law or Conservatism?

The Democrats could possibly win the House back with 24 seats just in NY and CA. They can and are doing it.

Hmmmm...I wonder what is forcing all of these politicians to retire from a job that legally lets you trade stocks on inside information? You don’t want to even put up a fight for a job where you work less than 100 days a year yet are paid like you work 365 days? What could it be...

It is not a good sign, even if it is nice that a bunch of Republicans(D) are going away. It is to be hoped that good solid real conservatives or Trumpists will win the primaries and not another set of sinecurists.

These guys handing us over to the Commie-crats without a fight?

Isn't it really up to the respective constituencies? If they want a conservative or republican, the local constituencies should be able to find one. And regardless of whether he was just a suit or actually accomplished something, if the guy has been there more than 16 years, isn't it actually good to move on?

“”””””Darrell Issa, the guy that said just after Obama and the Dems swept the elections... Give us another chance and we will do what we say this time.”””””””””

He is a joke. I was blasted on here for saying that back when he pretended to be a tough guy. He put up a good fake fight to protect the democrats, his job is done.

During the primary, if (d1) gets 10,002 votes, (d2) get 10,001 votes, and (r1) gets 10,000 votes, there won’t be a Republican on the election ballot.

The #NeverTrump GOPe donor class has apparently decided they would prefer a Democrat controlled congress, as the best way to maintain the Cheap Labor Express.

Sad to even imagine the HOUSE flipping back to liberal/democrats...

But can you just imagine NANCY PELOSI as speaker again? that is damn scary..and so is Impeachment..that is all we will hear for the next two years.

All this so called ‘good old boys’ taking all their ENTITLED benefits and running away...typical lying professional politicians, nothing else...
I agree, ISSA is running from being exposed for something or other!!!!

Bingo - you nailed it. Issa is almost certainly retiring in part due to this issue. His district is going to get murdered by the new tax law. He fought hard to change the direction of the bill, and championed a compromise that indexed your SALT deduction to income. But McCarthy and Ryan shot it down - it would have meant less revenue for the Feds and they needed that (our) money to make up for loss of revenue from slashing the corporate rate.

People on this board have been warning that these House seats are in serious danger, and not just the ones who voted for the tax bill. Issa sees what’s coming, and decided it’s best to leave on his own terms. Ryan will only care if he loses the House.

Bingo, and a lot of others too. There is an upper echelon of corrupt globalist and government officials, and now they are afraid of getting exposed since Trump's in office. That is how they are held in check (think justice Roberts and his vote on Obamacare). It's getting hot in the kitchen.

Tin foil hat off, and back to my regular scheduled programming..
