The embattled National Football League announced its decision to cancel this weeks edition of Sunday Night Football on Tuesday; hoping to avoid a ratings bloodbath as a less-than-stellar line-up and New Years Eve festivities would have caused the NFL to reach embarrassing new lows.
The league opted to call-off the game before announcing which teams were scheduled to compete, adding the match-up wouldnt have playoff implications and would likely cost the already troubled organization millions of dollars.
We felt that both from a competitive standpoint and from a fan perspective, the most fair thing to do is to schedule all Week 17 games in either the 1 p.m. or 4:25 p.m. windows, said a spokesperson for the NFL.
The National Football League is struggling to wrap up its disastrous 2017 season, with millions of fans tuning out or staying home following months of player protests.
Industry insiders predict the demonstrations have cost the NFL over $500 million.
President Trump thrust the issue into the national spotlight earlier this year, calling for a national boycott of the NFL until officials and owners clamp-down on their athletes taking a knee during the performance of the Star-Spangled Banner.
[(football almost became their religion)]
ALMOST???
Kneeling defines it!]
LOL pretty much true - I’m thinking how many people stopped going to church on Sundays or even watching Christian preaching to spend the whole day grilling / tailgating / game attendance / game TV.
Of course it wasn’t impossible to do both - just saying for many, that was their whole day.
[Will the kneelers kneel during the Superbowl?]
I certainly hope the SJW’s do...you KNOW they will. They’re not going to miss that opportunity.
And even more people will wake up to the stupidity.
The CK SJW’s will never stop their insurrection. Especially if “the man” tells them not to.
That’s my prediction, anyways.
I would if it were double-time and half like it is for a lot of folks.
Was developing a banking system (customer analysis) - went in on Sunday afternoon, after church, because I basically had the whole afternoon free.
After a couple of Sunday’s my boss said HR called him and said, you know he gets 2.5x on Sundays. I had no idea.
So there went my Sunday afternoon work right out the window, LOL.
(I almost never did work on Saturdays back then)
Just looked on my calendar.
The cat, my banshee and shewolf are scheduled for deep shampoo’s and nail cutting.
Won’t be able to watch....
Might not even be alive....
Night games have been cancelled during week 17 before.
Yes. But the 2015 schedule before the boycott said the night game was TBD
Thats a far tougher sport youre playing anyway, and no penalty flags
I always preferred:
Die TIRED,
ALONE,
in the COLD,
and the DARK.
When I think of Don, Frank, and Howard. I also think of Roon Arledge, a true entrepreneur and innovator. He passed away 15 years ago this December 5. A true giant in his field. Perhaps even fields is even more appropriate.
BOYCOTT THE NFL!!!.....FOREVER!!!
I have to laugh....
TRUMP CURSE!
New Years Fumblin’ Eve is cancelled?
You’re right
Yep. I never was big on watching new years tv anyway
#fakenews, queer shows, and when you stop watching the NFL for disrespecting our country, you begin to lose interest in all other sports.
I turn on my TV once or twice a week to watch a couple of old reruns on MeTV.
I hadn’t noticed that, but then we DVR Jeopardy. Are you sure that’s not just something your local network affiliate does? That might be where you need to gripe.
It would depend on how much I was getting paid to do so...
What are they going to tell the seat holders & the players & coaches???
This is nuts. NOT everybody is going “out’ for New Years.
Oh...I am sure it’s “local”, but it still pertaining to the NFL. They use the logo and “’property” of the NFL in their broadcasts.
I was always salaried or contracted. Sundays were a normal workday for years.
And my salary and “comp time” (that never seemed to appear) were a lot less than your 2.5X.
I should have paid more attention in my CS300 classes.
