Southwest Airlines says it all started with a cigarette.

A passenger was smoking in the bathroom somewhere between Portland and Sacramento on Saturday, according to the airline, and had gone so far as to tamper with the smoke detector.

I remember a time when anyone anywhere in a cabin could light up anytime. It wasn’t very pleasant.

I did a bit of flying during those times and I agree. I also flew a lot when they put the smokers in the back of the plane (Yeah, like that'll help in a sealed tin can). Anyway, I had several flights returning home from Germany on the Lufthansa planes and the Germans in the back smoked those terrible European cigarettes. The whole plane smelled like burning dung.

Sheesh! Over 70 posts, and not one person read the caption under the picture of the guy. United Express Flight 3411, David Dao dragged off plane unconscious. They used pictures of various flights where people were kicked off, starting with that one of the guy David Dao.

Portland to Sacramento is a one hour flight. If you can't make it for one hour without a cigarette you've got big problems.

From the time one enters the airport, goes through security, goes through the ticket process, and waits for boarding it is much longer than an hour in a no-smoking zone. I always get to the airport at least two hours before flight time. Plus, the one hour time is from wheels up to wheels down. There is still taxi time, waiting for takeoff clearance, and whatever other delays come up.

Now I am not a smoker, so it does not bother me at all, but lets be realistic about the time.

The comedian regularly smoked marijuana during their flights, said former co-pilot Chris LaPlante - so much, in fact, “we wore oxygen masks” so they would not become impaired.
