Alabama voters want a candidate who will represent their state with honor -- and they think Doug Jones has strong moral character and Roy Moore doesnt....
Jones is up by eight points over Moore among Alabama likely voters, 50 percent vs. 42 percent, in a Fox News Poll conducted Monday through Wednesday evenings. His lead is outside the polls margin of sampling error (±3.5 percentage points). Nine percent are undecided or plan to vote for someone else.
Alabama voters decide who will fill the U.S. Senate seat vacated by U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions in a December 12 special election. Allegations of sexual misconduct against Moore broke November 9. He denies the accusations.
Support from women is the key to the Democrats advantage in this red state, as Jones is their choice by 26 points (58-32 percent). The gap grows to 49 points among women under age 45 (69-20 percent), and hes up by 11 among women ages 45 and over (51-40 percent). Jones even receives 19 percent support from Republican women (to Moores 68 percent).
Moore is preferred among white evangelical Christians by 53 points (73-20 percent), whites by 19 points (56-37 percent), and men by 12 (53-41 percent).
Theres more party loyalty among Democrats, as 91 percent back Jones compared to Moores 78 percent among Republicans.
Some 30 percent of Moores backers say they have some reservations about their candidate, while 19 percent of Joness supporters say the same.
The poll, released Thursday, finds a 15-point gap between the number of Alabama voters who think Jones has strong moral character (56 percent) and those who feel that way about Moore (41 percent). Plus, 85 percent among Democrats think Jones has strong moral character, while just 65 percent of Republicans say the same of Moore.

As far as the allegations:
But do Alabama voters believe the allegations? Thirty-eight percent think they are true, while 37 percent dont. One in four is unsure (25 percent). Among Republicans, 13 percent believe the allegations against Moore are true and 19 percent think he should drop out.
Voters rate Jones positively by 20 points (53 percent favorable vs. 33 percent unfavorable), while they give Moore a net negative rating by 7 (43-50 percent). For comparison, Jeff Sessions is in positive territory (51-40 percent), while incumbent Sen. Luther Strange is viewed negatively (37-54 percent).
Donald Trump won Alabama by 28 points in 2016. Now voters there split over the presidents job performance: 52 percent approve vs. 47 percent disapprove. Ratings for McConnell are far more negative, as just 27 percent approve, while 57 percent disapprove. Moreover, Republicans are three times as likely to approve of Trump (91 percent) as McConnell (29 percent).
I posted about losing the Oklahoma red seat to a Democrat. Another FReeper posted that 3 Republican seats that were reliable in NH went Democrat. Obama's Presidency serves as a cautionary tale. The Republicans failures and infighting has greatly hurt. They should have been knocking out legislation, promoted their legislation, and went on the offense with all these investigations. Never give the Dem media control of the narrative without adequate pushback. Unfortunately, what we are dealing with is a circular firing squad.
By the way, Strange would lose even worse based on this poll.
And Hillary led President Trump by more than that....in 20 polls.
No surprise at the repeat of this poll.
Still, it is possible that Moore could have fallen behind.
So...they are fudging the polls to get Moore to quit. Alabama will decide, and Moore has 3 weeks to prove the establishment has lied again. Ive heard NONE of the accusers have sworn statements to any criminal investigators. I hope Moore stays in the race to the finish....then stomps the crap out of TURDle and breaks his jaw.
Moore wins by +5
run hard against theoretical senate majority leader chuck schumer. the last time we had a democrat majority leader, we got our healthcare hijacked.
hit it again, and again, and again. then repeat. that’ll bring the defectors back.
About 20% haven’t really made up their mind. More evidence can come out. The other allegations today and (I hear) bombshells tomorrow. Moore is taking a backburner.
Moore needs to reframe this as Alabama vs. the outside meddling media and politicians. Run, like Trump did, as an outisder to both parties. “Dont let the yankees tell us what to do.” That plays.
Only polls I’d believe would be Moore’s internal polling. Wonder what it’s showing.
Why would someone vote for an evil DemonRat over any Republican? I wouldn’t vote for a Democrat dog catcher.
I looked at the pdf. Same poll a month ago before all this had them tied. Unreasonable
Also, they did not release their demographics. They played the cute game of giving percentages.
All of the above a red flag to me.
Breitbart forced the Washington Post to put this story out too soon. If election day was the Tuesday that just passed, Moore would have lost miserably. As the WAPO wanted. Right now Moore has recovery time. There are now several weeks for Moore’s lawyers to bring legal action vs those if they are lying.
I think people have gotten wise; many don’t answer polls, and when they do, many don’t answer them truthfully.
I find polls intrusive and their results not really indicative of anything. I’ve never responded to one.
The Republican party is made up of 2 extremely opposite groups. One is conservative and the other are democrats.
Zactly. You really think in Alabama the Dem is up, at all, let alone 9 points? Nope.
I've met her and she is VERY butch.
Kyle Whitmire is an effete "columnist" there (though he's married) and he's written with more vitriol against Judge Moore than anyone, with the possible exception of John "I forgot I declared bankruptcy and I've got a gay brother" Archibald.
They hate Judge Moore and they have made it clear that they do.
Their jobs are also dependent on pleasing their editor. Those 3 papers are owned by Advance and they have laid off over 40% of their employees in the past few years and now only print 3 days a week.
So you have lesbains and leftists calling the shots and maybe a couple of people who are afraid to speak out in fear of losing their jobs.
But this is a hate campaign of the highest order.
I think the Dems played their hand too soon. We still have almost 4 weeks until the election...not sure why they hit so early - even with early voting, they should have waited at least a couple more weeks.
But now I think things are turning...Mo Brooks came out and SUPPORTED him, and for the MOST IMPORTANT reason, which is to stop the Democrats. And with Brooks on board, that should bring a large number of Republicans.
For Moore to actually win, he needs to turn this election into a referendum on D.C. Republicans - I think it’s doable, but he needs some serious grass roots, as in door-to-door, to pull this off. And if anyone can do it, he can!
True that.
Another push poll, more MSM BS. Moore wins going away.
Fox News is the new CNN clone. Nothing but lies.
