Robert E. Lee Elementary School is no more. The oldest magnet school in Hillsborough County, which some school board members were trying to rename as part of a nationwide movement to remove Confederate symbols, burned down on Tuesday night as hundreds of residents watched and children cried.

Odds on arson?
110%
“Power was restored Tuesday evening, residents said, then they saw smoke coming from the roof and fire engines racing in.”
“Penny said the fire did not appear to be suspicious, but the investigation had not yet started.”
“The school at 305 E Columbus Dr. was built in 1906”

Salt water in an old electrical system?
TV picture this AM show the building completely consumes in fire. Must be leftist arson.
Maybe 200 to 1?
Yep.
Al-Qaeda has nothing on our own home grown leftist terrorists. You might as well make Bill Ayers their Ayatollah.
Contempt for so-called “Confederate monuments” is merely a proxy for leftist hatred of everything American. Look at how they treat our Flag.
Certainly an older building that could have had electrical problems after the storm, but someone could have used the current state of chaos to perform their dirty deeds as well. Fire investigators should be able to figure it out.
No suspicious....Water, water everywhere...and a building burns to the ground.
Madness
I find it hard to believe any tears were shed by kids over this. If my elementary school had burned to the ground, we would have been celebrating for weeks. LOL.
From the article:
“He said investigators were considering whether the fire could be linked to restoration of electrical power in the area.
The school district’s history of the building said it was built in 1906 by neighborhood volunteers. It was called Michigan Avenue Grammar School then, but renamed for the Confederacy’s most famous general in 1943, when the street was renamed Columbus Drive. It became Hillsborough’s first magnet school in 1993 with a focus on technology. The world studies program was added in 2008.
Claitt, like many in Tampa, was aware of the controversy surrounding the name.
“It was named after an inappropriate person,” she said. “It should have been changed years ago.”
When they removed an very old elementary school near me to build a new one... you’d be surprised at how many ES kids (and middle school/high school kids that had gone there)... were in tears. Even with the “new” building, many felt they “missed” the old one.
They should rebuild it, and give it the same name.
Must also frost the leftist terrorists that it’s on Columbus Dr...
How queer,
Nancy Pelosi will blame it on the Alt Right.
I hope this was some accident due to the hurricane.
Hell the KKK at least burn wood they bought themselves!
Within weeks you'd bemoan the new FEMA-trailer classrooms.
