President Trump called on Congress to legalize DACA late Tuesday, just hours after his administration announced the repeal of the amnesty for children brought to the country illegally promising that he will revisit this issue if Congress does not turn DACA into legislation.
Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the repeal of the Obama era executive order known as the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program both on constitutional grounds and also on principle.
The effect of this unilateral executive amnesty, among other things, contributed to a surge of unaccompanied minors on the southern border that yielded terrible humanitarian consequences, Sessions said. It also denied jobs to hundreds of thousands of Americans by allowing those same jobs to go to illegal aliens.
The move saw significant opposition from Democrats and voices in the media, while even some Republicans who formerly opposed DACA called for Congress to act to resolve the issue with legislation.
The rollback includes a six-month delay so as to allow Congress to act if it so chose. The White House had expressed hope that the issue could be included as part of a broader immigration legislation package, with Trump tweeting that he hoped to work with Democrats and Republicans for a reform that puts hardworking citizens of our country 1st.
But by late Tuesday, Trump appeared to have turned into a paper tiger on the key campaign promise to get rid of DACA, saying he would revisit this issue if Congress did not legalize DACA.

“Will he reinstate it?”
I see no reason for President Trump to reinstate something he’s rescinded.
There should be NO extension.
Either Congress acts or the unconstitutional law is dead.
Whatever.
He did not cave. He and Sessions both have declared DACA illegal.
Congress will not do anything effectively regarding DACA....they’ll be lucky if they even get anything to the floor. They are worse than the UN!
No doubt this will be an issue in the coming primary season.
It was perfect until Trump’s revisit tweet.
It was unnecessary. And has mucked up what
was a perfect policy decision on phasing out DACA.
If the posts I've been reading here on FreeRepublic over the last 10-12 months are any indication, "his own base" seems to be filled with people who look for any opportunity to complain that they've been betrayed ... but only after first insisting that Donald Trump would never be president because Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, and some "Deep State" were rigging the 2016 election against him (or is that overturning the election results? I can't see to keep these organized in my mind).
It will make most real americans (PDJT voters) happy too.
So, he’ll veto the bill?
Then why is any congressional action needed at all?
Rescind the EO and let’s go on with our lives.
Have you seen the polling on this?
Obama knew what he was doing when he created this class of illegals.
For some reason, this is where President Trump chose to start.
Again, have you seen the polling on this?
“We the People” are indicating that they want amnesty for this particular narrow group.
The last thing Trump wants to do is give Congress an incentive to pass some DACA-like legislation now. He knows damn well that Congress would prefer to do nothing, and that's exactly what he wants them to do.
It's pathetic how seriously people here on FR take Donald Trump's Twitter posts -- even when they completely contradict each other. LOL.
Sadly for America, the leftwing traitors (communists & RINOs) will move quickly to pass DACA AMNESTY.
...and Trump will sign it ‘cuz “he loves the dreamers”
Sure. That is how immigration and naturalization laws are supposed to be done per the Constitution:
Article I, Section 8, Clause 4
[The Congress shall have Power] To establish an uniform Rule of Naturalization ...
Trump knows it will never pass. The DREAM act couldn't pass. That is why Obama did DACA by executive fiat. All of the GOPe wailed and gnashed their teeth at Obama for defying the Constitution.
But now that Trump says he will not continue DACA and if Congress wants amnesty they will need to pass it, the GOPe is wailing and gnashing their teeth at Trump for calling their bluff.
It is about damn time for the GOPe in Congress to face the music. They bitched about their Article I power being eroded for the last 16 years. Trump is giving their Article I power back to them, and he is giving it to them good and hard, to paraphrase H. L. Mencken.
I’m astonished that any Freepers still trust any polls that are published in the media these days.
I’m with you. One of the big problems with DACA AND with the whole witch-hunt against Sheriff Joe is that Obama singlehandedly tried to undo the separation of powers. He claimed that the executive branch had the right to legislate rather than simply carry out the legislation passed in the Constitutional way. Trump’s actions are to get our Constitutional balance of powers back, and that is the proper thing to do.
Of course, he wouldn’t have to delay the end of DACA to do that, but by giving Congress the time to legislate a DACA provision, he’s letting everybody know that it is not Trump’s job to decide American immigration policy; it is Congress’. And they have already done that. POTUS can’t just decide not to obey the law, as Obama did.
Trump’s biggest challenge is to reinstate the Constitution, after it has been trampled for at least 8 years. Not a small task, but the necessary one if we’re to get the Republic back, rather than just go back and forth between democrat and republican lawless tyrants. We HAVE to have the checks and balances back, if this republic is to survive. It is an existential issue - the biggest existential issue this nation faces. If we can’t make every branch of government AND the bureaucracy behind those branches actually LEGALLY ACCOUNTABLE to the rule of law, then the US is history.
Yes he does. It will not be pretty for Congress to see how fast they move to protect a bunch of illegals as to doing legislation that helps Americans. They are creating yet another protected class. Everyone is a protected class except for white, taxpaying American citizens. Pitiful.
But it wasn't the law. Laws are passed by Congress. Congress never passed it, and never will.
