HOUSTON As if the city of Houston hasnt seen enough tragedy due to catastrophic flooding from Hurricane Harvey, things took a turn for the worse today after a U.S. Navy ship collided with a building in the downtown area.
The ship was identified as an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer belonging to the Navys 7th Fleet.
It was unclear why the destroyer was not able to see the building and take evasive action, or why it was over 20 miles inland and trying to navigate through a major metropolitan area.
I had climbed up on my roof due to dem risin flood waters, when I saw a big ship sailin down the street, said Georgia Brown, a resident who witnessed the incident. I says to myself Oh Lawdy, someones done come to rescue us! and then it sails right past my house and smack straight into that yonder building.
This marks the fifth collision incident this summer for destroyers from the Navys beleaguered 7th Fleet, following incidents involving the USS Fitzgerald, USS John S. McCain, and the USS Ted Kennedy.
The Navy declined to comment on the cause of the collision, citing an ongoing investigation, although it did say the captain had been promptly relieved of his command.
Despite reticence from the Navy, a senior defense official speculated the ship had likely veered off course from its patrol route in the South China Sea.
Navy officials say they are planning a number of PowerPoint trainings related to urban maritime navigation.
I guess you haven't received a ton of e-mail over the years from well-intentioned friends and family passing on various news stories that were suspect or clearly bogus. Meanwhile, the dopey thing had been countlessly forwarded to a large number of people, as evidenced by the many addresses in the previous 'To' fields. Obviously, to forward it to friends and family members like this they must have actually believed the stupid story themselves.
Did those pesky Russians hack GPS again?
“Satier”
Even enough it’s too early to joke about the 7th Fleet and Hurricane Harvey, this article satiated my need for satire.
LOL!
God Bless the US Navy!
God Bless Houston!
God Bless Texas!
Boo to Hurricane Harvey!
Boo to GPS hackers!
Thanks for your note of agreement.
63 posts and not one comment on the USS Ted Kennedy? It must be a submarine because the Kennedys sink their vehicles. And I thought the Delmont 88 class had been retired.
And with most stories, many people often don't have all the facts down straight. So tossing fake or manipulated 'facts' into the mix only serves to confuse them more. They no longer know what to think. Dumb, I know. But since they're on our side, and could potentially pass the nonsense on to others, I think it's important that they be told the truth before the dopey fake story is spread too much.

If you pinch your nose when you say that it sounds just the way it would in real life. And its way funnier.
I would expect a stupid, nonsensical response like that from you.
It should be pointed out that we have an inordinate number of retired Navy vets on here who have been disregarding the warnings many are posting about the equipment and capabilities of our potential enemies and the radical decay that’s set in in our Navy. They simply dismiss any discussion of adversary hardware and USN degradation and insist our Navy is so superior that no adversary could possibly touch us. Much like the British regarded the Imperial Japanese Navy prior to the sinking of HMS Prince Of Wales *by* the IJN. Or the French, prior to the Maginot Line getting bypassed in the Ardennes. And, obviously, just as wrong.
That fact that such a satire is even vaguely believable by people of even average intelligence and knowledge should tell you everything you need to know about the parlous state of our Navy - and how seriously we *really* need to be paying attention to the equipment and training of our adversaries.
Remember, the Russian Navy has more recent successful naval combat experience than the US Navy. Admittedly it was against Somali pirates, but it’s still surface combat experience and more recently than us. They also didn’t take the pirates back to be tried - they either killed them or marooned them. The Chinese also have recent anti-pirate combat experience, apparently. Our current Obaminated Navy? We can’t even avoid freighters or tankers running fully illuminated.
LMAO!
Thank God I got out before Powerpoint and Safety Briefings.
I had just begun to rescue...
sorry John Paul Jones
Well played Duffleblog, well played.....
Okay, this does it, you’ve convinced me. It HAS TO BE the “training” or, lack there of, of our sailors.
I could excuse not seeing great big GIANT ships, but yuge BUILDINGS? First Osteen and now the Navy cruising (pun intended) Houston streets!
This proves it. All you Freepers who have been denigrating our sailors and Navy for weeks, are right.
I have been staunchly supporting them until now! No longer will I be one of the few fools here on FR defending their bravery, heroism, and commitment to serve our country. I am now joining the rest of you that have been criticizing, denigrating, mocking, trashing, bashing, and undermining our sailors.
I MEAN IT!!!!!! /s
In case you don’t know, “/s” is for sarcasm. That means everything I just said was not exactly true. Maybe the exact REVERSE is true? Maybe I was making a point (or two).
“If the T-Shirt fits, wear it” (Nancy Pelosi)
We Naval Aviators steer clear of buildings!
It collided with his hair.
I wish this was true and the building was the largest Planned Parenthood clinic in the nation. BOOM, implosion.
LOL great memories
Ya think?! IT’S. THE. DUFFLE BAG!!!!!!!!!
Anybody who needs to have satire explicitly identified to them...especially as obvious as this one....probably shouldn’t be here.
And yet, sure enough, the article has been tagged as satire.
Geezis....
