Recommendation? Need a Really Comfortable Travel Car, Think Sofa, With Wheels.
Recent car history Mazda MPV 1998 back when it was a great vehicle Xterra Golf TDi Jeep Sahara Unlimited
Now I need a travelin' car. I would keep the Jeep but it is too noisy.
Stopped in at a Volvo dealership and tried a s60, too stiff a ride for long trips and not comfortable seats.
Any recommendations for a really comfortable car? Just for me and perhaps one other passenger and our luggage?
I am thinking of a 2015 or 2016. All wheel drive would be nice. A little retro would be fine too.
Any ideas?

:). Just watched that movie yesterday.
I had an 88 Towncar. Loved that thing. I regret getting rid of it.
Toyota Camry or equivalent Nissan or Honda, Hyundai.
Totally adjustable seats that are also heated (for back relief). Some people like leather, I think it’s overrated.
Hyundai has a great warranty.
Chevy also has some great packages and another phenomenal warranty.
We had an Avalon for 10 years. We named it Das Boat. They float.
The Lincoln Trimmed Down was a good solid design for the most part.
Enough of them were driven in 70s Quinn Martin shows like Barnaby Jones, Cannon, and Streets Of SF.
That 74 had a 400 V8 and it could hit 100 that didn’t bother it all. The fuel gauge would drop like a stone.
We bought ours 5 years ago from a dealership in Albany, Oregon which is 200 miles south of here. It had 77K miles and I paid 6 grand. Try cars.com and punch in what you are looking for - some are more than 5 grand but there are many in that range.
We just picked up a used Lincoln Navigator. Very comfortable, heated and cooled leather seats, lots of leg room, separate DVD players in the headrest for the kids, lots of room. No, it won’t save on gas but right for my family’s needs.
Depending upon your budget and your fuel efficiency requirements, I was very impressed with a new Nissan Armada that I rented, very smooth riding and very spacious, great mileage for a full size V8 with 4x4, 20 highway. I was impressed enough to look up off-lease year old models, you can find a base model like the one I rented in the low 30’s. Not stripped in the least, it has everything but leather, sunroof and automatic rear hatch opener as far as I could tell. Nice fabric, charcoal with brown piping, sort of like microfiber ultrasuede. Very capable 4x4, I rented it to go to the 4x4 area of the northern Outer Banks, made it up and down the beach, over dunes, through deep dry sand, no problems whatsoever. Nice looking vehicle, too.
Lincoln MKT or Mark S
Both great cars, exp with the twin turbo 3.5
The resale/depreciation on them is bad so you can pick up a 3-4 year old low mileage car that was originally $60k for under 30 thousand.
Have to disagree with you on the Forester. Seats are subpar.
Another vote for Lincoln Navigator. I love my 2012. Even a grown adult can sit in the third row.
The Outbacks are comfy, and I’m comparing them to my Lexus ES350. Even the back seats are heated.
We thought the Outback was much more comfy than the Forester, so that’s why we picked it.
BMW X3 or X5. We just took ours 4,500 miles. Great trip!
The Chrysler 300 is roomy and has an easy ride. Get it with one of the larger engine options and it can provide plenty of power on demand.
My dad still has this Caddie and runs about the same as when I rolled this back in the standard definition days.
Buick, Lincoln, Caddy.
Used Crown Vic something comfy and dead reliable
1938 Buick is one of the last true-sofa cars built. Almost all GM cars qualified as “sofa cars” during the mid-to-late 30’s.
I’ve owned several...Albeit between 1946 & 1951, when I left for P.I.
