Doctors: Warmbier suffered "severe injuries to all areas" of his brain
Doctors treating an American who was released earlier this week by North Korea said he suffered "severe injuries to all areas" of his brain while he was in captivity.
Speaking at a press conference Thursday, Otto Warmbier's doctors said he is breathing on his own but does not consistently respond to verbal cues. Warmbier, who was in a coma when he was released, suffered "extensive loss of brain tissue in all regions of the brain," one of his doctors said.
Doctors Daniel Kanter, Jordan Bonomo and Brandon Foreman briefed reporters on Warmbier's condition.
The doctors would not comment on Warmbier's prognosis or his chances of fully recovering, citing his parents' wishes. They described his current condition as being in a state of "unresponsiveness wakefulness."

What kind of person goes to North Korea in the first place, a fool, an idiot, democrat.
What kind of parent allows their child to visit a place like North Korea?
why would a kid have a heart attack
“What kind of person goes to North Korea in the first place, a fool, an idiot, democrat.”
During the Vietnam war hippies would fly to Cambodia and hike to North Vietnam to “show solidarity with the comrades.” This was a regular and frequent occurrence. The North understood who and what they were but tried and executed them all as spies anyway. This wasn’t kept secret, yet the fools, idiots and Democrats kept coming.
Today whatever replaced the hippies go hiking near Iran and North Korea with the same intentions. These are the Never-Trumpers and Notmypresident people. They see the world through a special lens.
I think these people are desperate to be part of something bigger than themselves. Patriotism and religion are no longer acceptable so there is only communism left and that is extolled by their social group.
I have always wondered what went through their minds as they rot in prison or stand in front of a firing squad. The fortunate part is nobody but themselves are harmed by their idiocy. Now, if they really wanted to do harm all they have to do is stay in the USA and vote.
Why does ANYONE go to NK in the first place? Why was this kid there? Don’t they know how psycho NK is before they go there?
I wish someone would answer that. Why was he even there?
Several years ago, a bunch of American college kids made trip to N. Korea. I am pretty sure they stayed at the same hotel where Warmbier stayed. One day they snuck out and wandered around the building and found out the staff-only fifth floor. IIRC, they did not take anything but made video of their adventure and posted on the Internet. The video may be still around. Apparently Warmbier went to the same floor and decided to take something as a souvenir. Maybe he saw that video.
A fair amount of the blame belongs on the parents, people that arranged the trip and the individual to a degree.
As my father taught me when I was very young....”You put yourself in stuations that can get you in trouble and you end up in trouble, it’s your own fault”!
I don’t know the parents’ mindset before this happened. I think the father said the kid was on a regular (safe) trip to China. They had some extra time so a few went to NOKO for a couple days — with or without his parents’ knowledge? I don’t know.
Dad is giving full credit to Trump, and is vilifying Obama for doing nothing. It would be interesting to know his political leaning before the incident.
Like those parents in SFO whose daughter was shot by the illegal. After it happened I checked them out online, and they’re big libs — typical SFO creatures. I expect they were all for amnesty, etc. Then they whine that their kid was killed by an illegal. A bit late to have a come-to-Jesus moment, I’d say.
People have to figure out which party in DC is going to protect their safety.
State Dept. should charge service fee for those who knowingly go to these dangerous countries. When things go south, untold amount of money and efforts will be spent to get them home. Charge $5,000 for those who want to go to N. Korea. That will change their mind fast.
Speaking of money....yes the parents only have so much control but I’ll bet you they kicked in some of the cost of the trip.
4 minutes without oxygen and you are unconscious,4-6 minutes brain cells are dying, 6 minutes or more brain dead.
obviously tortured, head trauma or electrical shock treatment
They could have done a wide variety of things to him that wouldn’t show up after the fact - stuff a sock down his throat, inject him with meth to stay awake days for interrogation, waterboarding gone wrong, who knows at this point.
The news is so insulting to the doctors caring for him, basically claiming they’re “baffled”, or “have no idea” what is wrong, as if the doctors are clueless. Well, if they find him in a vegetative state, nobody on earth can say what happened except the evil bastards who did it to him.
obviously tortured, head trauma or electrical shock treatment
The got Dennis Rodman in trade for PR purposes.
Cardiopulmonary arrest can come about from reasons other than a heart attack.
Overly aggresive waterboarding, drug overdose, choking, plastic bag over his head.
Could it have been a suicide attempt? I remember the kid being really upset at the “trial” (if you can call it that?)and I wonder if he may have thought anything was better than life as a prisoner of the North Koreans?
Yes it could. If he tried to hanf himself.
Look up Young Pioneers Tours. Really creepy. According to their website, they specialize in ‘going to places your parents don’t want you to go’. They are based in China. I don’t know why anyone would go on their ‘tours’.
What was he doing there in the first place? My sympathy level decreases when people do really stupid things and end up hurt!
