Major U.S. corporations and leading business figures are raising an eleventh-hour appeal to President Donald Trump, urging him to not pull the country out of the landmark 2015 Paris Agreement on climate change.
Following Tesla (TSLA, -0.44%) CEO Elon Musk's suggestion that he would quit his positions on several White House advisory councils if Trump's decision is to exit the deal, as has been widely reported, other firms and business leaders have also come out in favor of the pact. Oil giants ExxonMobil (XOM, +0.30%) and ConocoPhillips (COP, +0.92%) were among companies that reiterated their support for the accord ahead of Trump's announcement, reports Bloomberg.
"Energy needs are a function of population and living standards," Exxon CEO Darren Woods said at the company's annual investor meeting in Dallas Wednesday, according to Bloomberg. Woods' position in favor of staying in the deal is the same as his predecessor, current Secretary of State Rex Tillerson. "When it comes to policy, the goal should be to reduce emissions at the lowest cost to society," Woods said, adding that demand for oil will keep growing even with the climate deal in place. ConocoPhillips thinks that being part of the Paris Agreement allows the U.S. to continue having a role in shaping efforts to reduce carbon emissions. "It gives the U.S. the ability to participate in future climate discussions to safeguard its economic and environmental best interests," company spokesman Daren Beaudo told Bloomberg in an email.

There must be tons and tons and tons and tons of money involved somehow
Do these oil companies want to buy and/or sell carbon credits? There has to be a financial motive to their buying into this “climate change” BS.
Trump has allowed this to drag on far too long and given time for national and international campaigns to organize and predict the end of the world if the US withdraws. Ivanka and Kushner are also in favor of staying in the agreement. It is only his base that wants out. Who is going to win?
Yep. And I think too much of it is taxpayer money...
Or lots and lots of ...
lol
Wow, major oil companies lobbying the President to stay *in* a “climate” accord. Nothing fishy about that at all.
I am not enough up to speed over these oil companies wanting it. It seems to me they wouldn’t..so there has to be some big gain for them...I guess trading carbon credits is a good guess.and might be why Gary Cohn is for Carbon Tax.
There’s a lot of ‘green’ to be made selling ‘green energy’ to green weenies...............
That sounds counter-intuitive, doesn’t it?
It seemed as if just a few years ago the “evil” energy companies were the biggest obstacle to action against globull warming, or so the libs told us.
Trump will do the right thing and exit this scam (and not piss off his base).
but must be tough for him as a dealmaker since he has leverage (’art of the deal’) to get concessions.
Why do these corporations have to be in some global agreement to do something that can be done without an agreement?
seems to me this paris agreement should be renamed "another way to scam the United States"
They want to sell energy credits.
A story came out..cant remember where..that Jared had changed his mind and was for changing the standards of the agreement
Signaling a reversal. Changing standards might not mean pulling out for him. Perhaps his is a face saving move
These CEOs have liberal wives and they want to please them.
Tesla’s CEO? His company is subsudized by tax payers to make cars that are essentially toys for the very wealthy. Shameless confict of interest rather than concern for the enviorment? And whats with the moral obligation that tax payers have to help rich peole buy toys? Shall we also be subsidising their yaughts?
Because, without the government financial input, US industry would have to pay for compliance with the accord.
Follow the money.
This is not about money. It is about power and control - of every living, breathing human being.
Isn’t this what the left refers to as “corporate welfare?
