US Chief Justice Roberts decries "partisan hostility"

The “partisan hostility” surrounding the confirmation of Justice Neil Gorsuch is of concern because it could undermine public confidence in the apolitical nature of the judicial system, U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts said Tuesday at a college appearance in upstate New York.

The appearance a day after Gorsuch was sworn in by President Donald Trump at the White House was billed as a conversation with Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute President Shirley Ann Jackson. Jackson talked with Roberts onstage before about 1,200 students, faculty and guests, some of whom asked him questions. […]

“We in the judiciary do not do our business in a partisan, ideological manner,” Roberts said. “The new justice is not a Republican or a Democrat; he’s a member of the Supreme Court. But it’s hard for people to understand that when they see the process that leads up to it.” …

Apolitical?

Is there ever any doubt, on major court decisions, whether the libs will vote in lockstep?

Give Clinton and Obama their due.

They never made Souter, O'Connor, Warren and Kennedy mistakes.

That "tax" is important.

IIRC, the ACA that became law originated in the Senate.

That silly old dusty Constitution thingy is pretty clear that taxes and other revenue bill must start in the HR.

I've never seen an explanation of this.

What an idiot. The democrats will kick and scream like babies when they don’t get their way. Maybe if he called out the babies by name he wouldn’t sound as stupid as he does.

Agreed.

The ‘partisan divide’ was created by those who openly state their desire to see our country ruined. Of course, those who oppose them are the guilty ones, right?

Not only did he rewrite statutory law, he ensconced the power of the national government to force citizens to purchase a product. These precedents will remain even if Obamacare is repealed.

Repeal the 17th Amendment.

That’s how the Obama team operates. Still think they had something on him regarding the adoption of his kids to get their desired decision on Obamacare.

It must be Roberts hasn't been hanging out with Kagan, Sotomayer, Breyer, or Ginsburg lately - or the 9th Circus Court or various judges in Hawaii, Maryland, or Seattle for that matter.

"No politics"? The poor lad leads a sheltered life, that one does.

If he doesn’t stop talking people are going to start referring to him as the Susan Rice of the Supreme Court.

Seems like a sweeping generalization to me. Do you have any evidence of your statement? You may be right. I would assume judges have opinions, but would attempt to make their rulings without letting their prejudices effect them. It becomes harder all the time to believe that more and more judges are not swayed by politics.Especially when those nominating them are more and more political.
