Ted Poe, Freedom Caucus Dropout: 'Saying No Is Easy'

Texas U.S. Rep. Ted Poe quit the conservative House Freedom Caucus on Sunday after lawmakers failed to pass a bill to replace the Affordable Care Act two days before.

Poe had prepared to vote for the Republican American Health Care Act, which was ultimately pulled from the House floor when Republicans learned they did not have enough votes to pass it, reported Fox News. Poe said he was unhappy with the caucus opposition to the bill.

"To deliver on the conservative agenda we have promised the American people for eight years, we must come together to find solutions to move this country forward," said Poe, per Fox.

"Saying no is easy, leading is hard, but that is what we were elected to do. Leaving this caucus will allow me to be a more effective member of Congress and advocate for the people of Texas. It is time to lead."

RE:” This sounds like a great plan. This is what I supported when I voted for Donald Trump.
WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS SEVEN-POINT PLAN? “

That may have been just to win the primary.(I bet its gone now.)
Then he went to the general election.

Even back then a year ago he was promising to keep the pre-existing conditions which is the most expensive part. You cant have that without a personal mandate.

We’re going to have insurance for everybody. There was a philosophy in some circles that if you can’t pay for it, you don’t get it. That’s not going to happen with us.”
Trump insists health care replacement will have 'insurance for everybody' (Published January 16, 2017 FoxNews.com)

I just have a problem with people who don’t negotiate in good faith. If they really couldn’t vote for the bill they should have said that from the get go.

I think you have it backwards. The HFC members voted for a full repeal in January 2016 and now in March 2017.

It's the other critters who flipped and who have now changed their position "from the get-go".

The Freedom Caucus WAS leading to avoid a change from Obamacare-D to Obamacare-R ..... Poe going squishy, IMO.

From link:
http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-news/3538475/posts

Much of the finger pointing has been directed at the House Freedom Caucus, with rhetoric like this: Its members are not willing to compromise, and cannot get to “yes” on anything. The response to this is very simple and true. Prior to this year, the House voted to repeal Obamacare more than 50 times -—when it was clear that President Obama would veto the bill. The problem we are facing is that some of the people who voted for repeal 50 times will not vote for repeal when it counts, when it is “our moment in time,” with Republicans in control of Congress and the presidency. It would stand to reason that if we truly want to pass a bill, to make good on our promise of the past 7 1/2 years to repeal and replace the broken law, we would put the same bill forward that already passed with near unanimous GOP support. That right there is the problem, that some are ducking for cover when the vote matters most, and so the blame game misses its mark.

........... on the policy. The GOP leadership’s bill included premium increases of 15 to 20% until 2020. That is not progress. While some were led to believe we were getting a repeal of Obamacare, this bill left in place the worst planks of Obamacare, the parts that drive up the cost of insurance. If you want to be able to shop for your health insurance, like you used to be able to, that was not in this bill. If you want your premiums to go down to where they used to be, that was not in this bill. If you are a young person who just wants to go out and buy a bare bones insurance plan that fits your life and needs, that was not in this bill. In fact, the federal bureaucracy would still be in charge of telling insurance companies how to do insurance, and that is the major problem. The federal government is doing insurance just like we had the federal government doing mortgages right before the financial collapse.

So they were able to pass the full repeal in January of 2016, but today they wouldn’t have the support?

Apparently, yes. None of the posing beltway conservative “warriors” can manage to whip up the votes to move it forward.

Ok two points...
1) would a conservative replace an unconstitutional bill with another unconstitutional bill, back it and support it just “for a win for our guy” or kill it altogether as promised?
2) would said person then blast conservative members of his own party and threaten them ala PRinses Pubus with a primary?
3) why is the card you folks always turn to Cuzist? Just because this was god awful policy and I won’t support the President on it does not make one Cruzbot etc. I think you want to now call me a tea bagger as the liberals call us.
4) and most importantly, the owner of this site a Cruzbot? A Cruzist? A sore loser? Take that up up him please if you truly feel that way

Now that’s an interesting question, given the fact that Paul Ryan is a helluva lot closer to the Koch Brothers than anyone in the Freedom Caucus.

David Koch ran as a libertarian for VP. Many in the “freedom caucus” share those fantasies. Do you homework before blowing smoke, FRiend.

So they went to the meeting, agreed to whatever, and that counts for nothing to you. What did they do tell the president to go look at their website. They agreed to a part but it doesn’t count cause their website said something else LOLOLOL

It’s pretty clear now that the never Trumpers who did little to help defeat Hillary Criminal and her Constitution destroying SCOTUS now intend to backseat drive the Trump admin into the ditch. Meanwhile, Democrats are literally dancing in the streets at this fratricide.

There is nothing conservative about damaging this POTUS agenda in these historic times. Ryancare, as unappealing as it was, moved the ball forward and freed up billions of dollars for other agenda items. Now we have nothing on obamacare and a damaged POTUS.

You actually think that Brat and the rest of the HFC said that they would agree to the bill?

You base that conclusion on what? The word of Poe?

The word of a guy who over-and-over again has voted to simply fully repeal Obamacare?

The word of a guy who then flip flops and votes for leaving most of Obamacare intact and instead votes for Obamacare light?

LOLOL!

And that counts nothing to you??

No it's not apparent until Ryan and the rest of the leadership gets out of the way.

If you want to bring up rumors, weren't the Koch Bros. pushing Ryan to take the nomination away from Trump in an open convention?

The moment Trump was elected with the promise of fixing Obamacare he became the owner of Obamacare. So he needed action - even if the action didn’t work right away. The Democrats know that the one thing that cripples Trump is continued inaction in Washington D.C. - not fixing problems.

The public isn’t going to hold Trump accountable for taking action, they are going to hold him accountable if he can’t get Washington to work. That is what the stall/delay and sabotage program the Democrats are running now is all about - making sure that Trump can’t get anything done. The last thing on Earth they will do is Trump votes to do things when no one will know if they help or hurt for years to come. They want inaction because Trump ran on action. Doesn’t matter what it is - Trump has to move things.

Poe was a Harris County judge noted for meting out creative and fitting punishments.

He was a tea party candidate for congress, and until his election, I viewed him as a solid rock-ribbed conservative.

D.C. transforms people.

“I’m scratching my head here, trying to understand why anyone would think it’s a good idea to pass a bill that has the support of 17% — yes, SEVENTEEN percent — of the American public. “

Most interesting point. Next time the Dems will vote for it and show the waste what 8 years of effort would produce. The GOP will lose in 2018 and thereafter Obamacare will be reintroduced and live on.

You make good points.

More evidence of this is their stall tactics with Nominee Gorsuch. They cannot find fault with the guy, hell many of them like him.

But they’re gonna filibuster him anyway.

Because Trump.

None of us know how this will wind up.

1. Trump himself supported a bad bill. Threw his lot in with Ryan. Strike one.

2. Could have used an EO on a couple levels to stop obungholecare. He didn't. Strike 2.

3. Moving on...wtf? I didn't vote for him to move on. I voted for him to end obungholecare. Strike 3.

We DO know how it will wind up: Exactly as it was planned to end up from the very beginning.

How many times - HOW MANY?!?!?! - did they vote to fully repeal between 2010 and 2016? Now there’s a problem? Sure there is. The problem is that they never meant to repeal it from the get go. They only voted for repeal because they knew it would get vetoed by obunghole.

He couldn’t use an EO to end Obamacare. It was established legislation. If he had, he would have been guilty of an Obama infraction we detested.

He did support the bill. I don’t know why. It is not what he campaigned on, because he campaigned on repeal and replace. Replace could mean move to a plan like the Bill Paul is hawking that actually wove it’s way to Obama’s desk in early 2016, one year ago. Ryan is a GOPe RINO. Who didn’t know that? I think he and more than likely Priebus counseled Trump that in Congress and the Senate, this was the only way it could be done. They were wrong. He was wrong to sign on.

You loft your plan, the one that does exactly what you promised. You ram it through and let the chips fall where they will. It would have for sure passed the House, and I think it would have passed the Senate. Ryan didn’t do it. the rest is history.

As for moving on, for the moment yes. It will come up again soon, and if we’re fortunate, the Ryan plan will get it’s opportunity.

No, we don’t know exactly how it will wind you.

Positive people will hold out hope.

Negative people will look for the cloud in every silver lining.
