Donald Trumps meeting with the New York Times Tuesday is suddenly back on again after being just as suddenly cancelled.
Before 7 a.m. Trump was on Twitter bashing the failing newspaper (which is not failing), and announcing that he was calling off their meeting because they had attempted to change the terms of the meeting.
Not nice, the president-elect groused.
The Times denied that it had ever changed or attempted to change the ground rules for the meeting, saying that the paper had agreed to a small off-the-record portion of a larger conversation with columnists and reporters, which would be on the record. The Times also said that they only heard about the meetings cancellation from Trumps early-morning angry tweet.
Shortly before 10 a.m. CNNs Brian Stelter reported that Trump press secretary Hope Hicks told him the meeting was back on.
On Monday Trump met off the record yesterday with anchors and representatives from CNN, ABC, CBS, NBC, and Fox News. Reportedly, the president-elect used the meeting to criticize them for their coverage of him. It was like a ******* firing squad, a source told the New York Post.

I cancelled today's meeting with the failing @nytimes when the terms and conditions of the meeting were changed at the last moment. Not niceDonald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump 4 hours ago
Perhaps a new meeting will be set up with the @nytimes. In the meantime they continue to cover me inaccurately and with a nasty tone!Donald J. Trump @realDonaldTrump 4 hours ago
The failing @nytimes just announced that complaints about them are at a 15 year high. I can fully understand that - but why announce?
“Slobbering over the winning!”
I’m still not tired of the winning! I want more winning!
It came out a couple weeks ago the NYSlimes bottom line was down 95% for the quarter.
Burn, baby, burn.
My guess is the meeting will be Trump reading the snake story to them.
He’s got them. They either honor his terms, or, more likely, they don’t, in which case Trump will have a visible reason to block their access.
and the third week starts with a great WIN for the people against the NY Times.
President-elect Trump doesn’t seem to roll over like they are used to with typical Republicans.
Is this the ‘new normal’ the media will be facing for the next 4 years?
:)
You have to believe all Republicans are watching this in disbelief at how much better Trump’s leadership is than there all talk no action existence.
I see what Donald is doing. He’s getting out in front of them.
Conservatives have prayed for a long time for a President that would fight these liars.
Donald knows they busy themselves each day with how to get Trump. They do nothing else. So he shakes them up, keeps them guessing, baits them, fools them and makes fools of them.
And he does all this as naturally as breathing in and out.
That is true because it has already failed.
1: define your enemy
2: treat them like they are your enemy
Previous Republicans have failed those two steps in dealing with the press. LOVE seeing Trump plaster the walls with them.
3 and 5/8” ? I think most writers at the NYT have that area serviced frequently and won’t even need (or want) the lube. Probably should have a 4 and 7/16” handy just in case.
No more Press Conferences required! The MSM has been "out-sourced." TO TRUMP!
Mainstream Media = Redundancy.
I read 97% of ad revenues gone and 6x the usual number of calls complaining about their election coverage.
But, Carlos has a checkbook, so they aren’t failing. They simply are not funding operations with current revenues.
Someone who like games should consider designing one titled “Parse the Press”. Use Pepe as a game avatar for Trump and the American People.
This is hilarious - Times agreed to a small off the record portion. Which is what Trump wanted in the first place!
I own a big dog. He’s so confident he simply stands there (no sniffing) and if the ankle biter gets feisty, he lets out one deep WOOF and the little guy scurries away.
2: treat them like they are your enemy
Previous Republicans have failed those two steps in dealing with the press.
Not just the press, but liberals and anyone else who is against them.
According to my Business Directory (doesn’t name the source of their data...sorry):
NYTimes
2010 made $800,000,000 in Revenues
2014 made $550,000,000 in Revenues
Employees
2010 5621 employed
2014 3529 employed
Looks like a downward trend to me. Maybe some people don’t see that as “failing” so much as a “strategic cut in income”
