White House officials moved Thursday afternoon to stop the nascent effort by Democrats and immigration activists asking President Obama to pardon so-called DREAMers, releasing a statement to BuzzFeed News that the president does not have the power to do so.
The president takes the executive clemency power seriously. As a general matter, we do not comment on the likelihood of whether a specific pardon may be granted, should one be requested, a White House official said. We note that the clemency power could not give legal status to any undocumented individual. As we have repeatedly said for years, only Congress can create legal status for undocumented individuals.

The wall can be built for less than the US spends on illegal aliens in a single year.

Isn’t that exactly the opposite of what the Obama administration argued in a Texas court?

Like these retard Democrat Congress members care if it’s legal or not. They don’t.
Like everyone on the left, the law is meaningless to them. Only the outcome matters, as long as the outcome is something they want.

You can pardon dreamers all you want. That still doesn`t make them citizens or legal residents (i.e. We forgive you for coming here illegally. Now get the hell out.)

Yeah make it a pretty wall (and of course incredibly secure) with a golden T every half mile or so :)
Put a few Trump casinos on it and it will pay for the extra security :)

Isnt that what he said right before he granted them amnesty?
Yes, and he was telling the truth then also.
He just double downs and lies. He’s a thug! He knows that he can get away with anything, if he just calls everyone opposing him racist.

He can pardon them for past crimes...and if they leave the country prior to the pardon, they can have their records completely cleared. But if are here at the moment of pardon, as others said, they are still breaking the law."
How can the President of the United States, pardon a foreigner for a civil offense?

Well, Obama is not quite correct. He COULD pardon Illegal Aliens... at the Federal level only, and only for the illegality of their presence up to the moment of the pardon.
The very next second, they would be guilty of a new, unpardoned crime.
And the states could still prosecute.

What happened when Jimmy Carter gave a blanket pardon to Vietnam era draft evaders?? Did that clear them or did they still have legal issues after that? They were fine. They got pardoned for dodging the Vietnam War draft. There was no continuing war, so they committed no new crimes.
Unlike illegal aliens, who violate continuously throughout every day.

It is a continuing crime while they are in the US.

Removal/deportation is a civil matter. Pardons only apply to crimes. The Liberal Messiah could pardon every Mexican Invader for any federal crimes they committed and they still could legally be thrown out of the country.

Draft evasion at the time was a criminal act, even subject to potential court martial. That's how they could be pardoned (a criminal act).
Foreigner's here illegally is not considered a criminal act, but rather, a civil crime.
Therefore, how could a President of the U.S. issue a blanket pardon to foreigners (non citizens) who are committing a civil crime?

When I post a picture, I use height and width commands to control its size:
< IMG SRC="image.gif" ALT="some text" WIDTH=50 HEIGHT=33 >
Vs.
< IMG SRC="image.gif" ALT="some text" WIDTH=500 HEIGHT=333 >
I was really looking for an excuse to post a picture of a cute bunny.

Dang! LOVE that picture and tried to make it my wallpaper but it is just way too big for my 21 monitor. On my computer, when I choose a wallpaper, I have various resize options to optimize the appearance. The size of the picture on a website is not the size it will be on your computer.
If you can't resize it using the wallpaper settings, you can also use a program such as Microsoft Office Picture Manager to edit and resize it.
I do not know what the equivalent programs are on a Mac. If I have to do that stuff on my iPad, I hand it to my son.

Carter did that in 1977. Considering the draft ended in '73, that would clear them. The potential legal difference with illegal aliens is that they would be cleared up until now, but they're still here illegally. They can't get in trouble for illegally crossing the border, but they can get in trouble for being in the country illegally.
To: rxsid
Because our (so called) President does NOT have the power to pardon FOREIGNERS who commit crimes...regardless if they are in our country.
Sure he can. Presidential pardon power is specifically ...and he shall have Power to grant Reprieves and Pardons for Offences against the United States, except in Cases of Impeachment. If the foreigner is breaking our laws, and is going through our justice system, then yes, he would have the power to grant a reprieve or pardon. But say for a US citizen that breaks another country's laws, he wouldn't have the power to do that.
