Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, with iminent and sustained impacts to U.S. mainland. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency for all of Florida and disaster operations are activated. More than 1.5 million Floridians reside in current evacuation zones. Governor Scott has spoken with utilities across the state to ensure utilities are pre-positioned and there are no unmet needs. Multiple coastal hospitals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, feckless President Barack Hussein Obama is personally monitoring the progress of the storm.

Oh my. Prayers that she stays safe.
Thank you
When the eye clears the Bahamas and hits the bathwater that is the Gulfstream..look out. I think we are looking at a strong Cat 4. Somewhere in the area of 130-140mph sustained winds. Andrew was like this storm, pressure dropping like a rock before landfall and was a Cat 5 when the front of the eyewall hit the beach near Homestead. We go below 910-20 Millibars look out.
“Will you please quit the downcasting? The models show nothing of the sort happening. “
?? The models show the eye staying off the coast, as you know the strongest winds are in the NE quadrant, that puts the strongest winds well off the coast.
“Your original post left out important info, and fostered misinterpretation.”
I assume that we’re all adults in here. I can’t be held responsible for every person that has some difficulty in reading and comprehending the language that I use. Sorry I couldn’t have posted a fully comprehensive and live report for you.
sounds like cnn..I’ll let you know, as I live in NE Fla. 10 miles from the coast.
The two primary models, the GFS and the Euro, show the eye going right up the coastline. Once again, please save your downcasting and media bashing for another day. Matthew appears to be bombing out with a massive pressure drop and this will, in all likelihood, be a extremely serious matter.
Prayers up.

Let me know if you see Anderson cooper fly by
At one time it looked like it was aimed straight at our double wide vacation home behind Holden Beach, NC
I’ve got a small plot of land on the Southport-Supply road, about five miles north of Oak Island...hoping the trees stay upright, and pose no threat to the neighbor’s property...
Be safe down there.
Don’t doubt that, but could that not be an anomaly? Gusts and temporary drops in pressure are likely in something this size, right?
Bottom line is folks need to get out if they are in the evacuation zone.
FL will never go blue.
okay...
Joe Bastardi had been tweeting forecast info over the past hour or so...will summarize:
- deepening should take pressure below 934mb (Euro model had guessed 930 overnight)
- landfall around Jupiter
- some good news (I guess): he thinks that the interaction w/land should reduce it to a cat 2 by the time it gets to Daytona Beach.
Of course everything from Jupiter to Titusville will have to absorb the Cat 4+ fury before then.
Utility crews from the Gulf states are quite adept in that they deal with most every form of calamity imaginable *and* hurricanes.
Plus, they won’t get the cold shoulder like they did in New Jersey post Sandy.
“Let me know if you see Anderson cooper fly by” I’ll let you know after I stop laughing.

I can understand someone over 60 years old not encountering the metric system. It wasn't taught much in the USA before then.
Anyone younger than 60 or so should have knowledge of it.

I hope he tries.
