The Department of Commerce is set to hand off the final vestiges of American control over the Internet to international authorities in less than two months, officials have confirmed.
The department will finalize the transition effective Oct. 1, Assistant Secretary Lawrence Strickling wrote on Tuesday, barring what he called "any significant impediment."
The move means the Internet Assigned Numbers Authority, which is responsible for interpreting numerical addresses on the Web to a readable language, will move from U.S. control to the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers, a multistakeholder body based in Los Angeles that includes countries such as China and Russia.
Critics of the move, most prominently Texas Republican Sen. Ted Cruz, have pointed out the agency could be used by totalitarian governments to shut down the Web around the globe, either in whole or in part.

WTF? This can’t be good. Besides personal info being out there and the probability of censorship, the possibility of governmental and industrial/intellectual espionage will really exist.
Barack Muhammad Jugears hates free speech. Which is exactly why he’s doing this. He wants to shut down all criticism emanating from the internet and the Chinese will be more than accommodating.

Typical DC BS. Lessens our ability to do something like cut off ISIS and Jihadis, while increasing the power of authoritarian places like China, the UK, and the EU to restrict free speech.

This is a mistake we’ll look back on with anger.
It does fit a pattern though. As our rights fade away, many times it’s based on international concepts, trade organizations, and other entities.
Our free speech rights will thus be enforced by an international body in the future.

This is another example of corrupt Congress letting faceless federal bureaucrats outside the legislative branch get away with stealing and exercising legislative branch powers. By doing so corrupt lawmakers are able to keep their voting records clean so that they can fool low-information patriots into reelecting them imo.

What’s this supposed to look like?
Would it be a total global democratization, in which what we knew as US based .com’s would now be forced to become .com.us’s? The old .com’s would not be supported any more?
I suppose that was fated to happen as the web became truly worldwide. Still I don’t know why each designated piece can’t be given to each corresponding party.
