Early African-American intellectuals and cultural elites saw that the future of their race could not be advanced by endless protests or marches of “equality” or “justice.” It could only be done through the restoration of the trampled dignity of the black man. Great men like Marcus Garvey, W. E. B. Du Bois, and Malcolm X all knew that a people is only respected when it has a nation worthy of respect. A man who lives in a shack cannot expect to be treated with respect at a palace. They knew that for us to reclaim power we must first reclaim dignity and that this comes through the construction of a solid black state with a demonstrable level of development and prosperity–and which can stand as a powerful advocate for the global black.
Today, no such state exists.
Nigeria, the most populous black nation on Earth, is on the brink of collapse. The machineries that make a nation exist, let alone succeed, have all eroded. One might argue that the nation’s creation by self-seeking white imperialists engendered its failure from the beginning, as I did in my recent novel. But this is only a part of the cause. A culture of incompetence, endemic corruption, dignified ineptitude, and, chief among all, destructive selfishness and greed has played a major role in its unravelling. The same, sadly, can be said for most other African nations. States like Zimbabwe, Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea are farcical democracies ruled by men who exclusively cater to their interests and those of their clipped circles.
Thus, it is no surprise that in the absence of any healthy black nation–in the midst of chaos, senseless wars, corrupted religiosity, violence, and economic collapse–African and Caribbean people leave home en masse.

This unnamed country doesn’t sound very smart to me if they allowed that to happen. Why didn’t they invent firearms or at least something more advanced than spears to defend themselves? MASSIVE FAIL, IMO.
The man who wrote the article is Nigerian, and if you read the article, he is basically defining success with a much higher bar than your example of Ethiopia. Success means a dominant world power than can compete with the West across the spectrum of accomplishments, militarily, culturally and academically, for example.
Anyone who thinks three wives is a good idea has obvious IQ problems.

After visiting south African countries, a few years back, I came away from Botswana with a very favorable impression.
Where are the great monuments and buildings? Where are the great works of art and literature? Where is there even evidence of a written language?
In general children get their neocortex blueprint from their mother, their ambitions from their father. However the IQs of Asian/Caucasian blends do show a melting of the two parent IQs, which is evidence the higher Asian IQ is genetic and not environmental.

Only massive fail from the modern perspective - at the time the African cities had lots of food, running water, sewage systems and little or no crime - things which did not exist in Portugal. The Portuguese sent repeated requests to be allowed to remain in Africa. Those in power at home were afraid if they were allowed to remain, that many others would flee to Africa and away from the horrid living conditions in the then most advanced civilization in Europe.
They were powerless before diseases before which they had no immunities. They had no need of firearms as they lived a mostly peaceful life and warfare was fought with surrogates - one was chosen from each side, the winner’s side won the argument. Armies fighting to the death was not done - a European invention. This is about civilization, not who has the best invention - by that measure, the Egyptian, the Greek, and the Roman civilizations were massive failures
The real problem is more loosely correlated with race.
That problem is when you co-mingle corruption with socialism.
One can argue you can’t have socialism without corruption, and I won’t argue that in the long term.
But whether you’re in Lagos Nigeria, San Juan PR, Caracas Venezuela, Gaza Strip, or Detroit Michigan, the common thread is more a factor of the mix of corruption and socialism than race.
Socialist countries like Sweden generally are not corrupt - though the corruption around immigration will ultimately make them a failed state just as bad as any other.
The US props up more socialist regimes with foreign aid than anyone can imagine.
My co-worker is from Cape Town.
She and her husband want be become Americans.
Whites in South Africa have zero rights. Time to get out.

Here’s an interesting interview with Burgess Owens, former NFL star, where he talks about his new book, “Liberalism or How to Turn Good Men into Whiners, Weenies and Wimps”.
He makes a statement that applies to both blacks and whites,
“Ignorant and free can never be”. Our republic requires informed and educated citizens with a moral base rooted in Christianity.
It’s on the stevedeaceshow site so many here will probably never go there. But it’s a great interview. He says things most of us wish the majority of blacks knew and believed. It’s tragic and immoral what the Democrat Party has done to blacks in America. But there’s also lots of blame to go around.
