Early African-American intellectuals and cultural elites saw that the future of their race could not be advanced by endless protests or marches of “equality” or “justice.” It could only be done through the restoration of the trampled dignity of the black man. Great men like Marcus Garvey, W. E. B. Du Bois, and Malcolm X all knew that a people is only respected when it has a nation worthy of respect. A man who lives in a shack cannot expect to be treated with respect at a palace. They knew that for us to reclaim power we must first reclaim dignity and that this comes through the construction of a solid black state with a demonstrable level of development and prosperity–and which can stand as a powerful advocate for the global black.
Today, no such state exists.
Nigeria, the most populous black nation on Earth, is on the brink of collapse. The machineries that make a nation exist, let alone succeed, have all eroded. One might argue that the nation’s creation by self-seeking white imperialists engendered its failure from the beginning, as I did in my recent novel. But this is only a part of the cause. A culture of incompetence, endemic corruption, dignified ineptitude, and, chief among all, destructive selfishness and greed has played a major role in its unravelling. The same, sadly, can be said for most other African nations. States like Zimbabwe, Cameroon, and Equatorial Guinea are farcical democracies ruled by men who exclusively cater to their interests and those of their clipped circles.
Thus, it is no surprise that in the absence of any healthy black nation–in the midst of chaos, senseless wars, corrupted religiosity, violence, and economic collapse–African and Caribbean people leave home en masse.

Actually there were, but long ago before the coming of the Portuguese in 1460 and the introduction of firearms. They were far in advance of the European nations of the time, but rapidly fell apart with the introduction of European diseases - mainly syphilis. The cities were built from wood and decayed back to jungle in a few short years.

Just look at how Rhodesia (Zimbabwe) has deteriorated under Mugoober. It was once the breadbasket of Africa and now tens of thousands of acres of fertile farmland stand idle as people can barely feed themselves.

The modern nation of South Africa was built by the Dutch, then taken by the English during the Boer Wars.
It was a successful nation during this period.
Since being taken over by the black African (think Mandella & cronies) nationals it has degenerated into one of the worst, most dangerous, so called democracies on the African Continent.

I was in college during the years of the revolution in Rhodesia where the black majority population was revolting to overthrow the ruling white majority. Ian Smith was the president of Rhodesia.
During that time I took an English lit course with a professor who was seldom on the subject. He discussed Rhodesia occasionally and its prospects under black rule. He said plainly that it would fail under black rule “because they didn’t create it”. I often remember that and consider whether individuals or groups can maintain and sustain something they didn’t create.
Now we have Zimbabwe instead of Rhodesia.
South Africa today is not far behind Nigeria. The government there does everything it can to continue the perception that it’s a first- or at least second-world city/nation, but there is plenty of photographic evidence to the contrary, and ample news articles about whites being dispossessed of their property which promptly falls into disrepair in the hands of its new black owners, and about the rapid rise in crime.
Don't know about that. The author grew up in Africa, traveled the continent extensively, has won awards for his books about Africa, and is a professor at the University of Nebraska. So, he might know a few things.
