Much divides the country when it comes to the issue of gun violence. Thats why it is so important to find common ground so that, together, all Americans can work to reduce the damage that guns cause in our society.
A new initiative starting this week in New Mexico has the potential to bring people together toward a common goal making people safer without fighting over whether assault weapons should be banned or the meaning of the Second Amendment.
Called Guns to Gardens, the movement organized by New Mexicans to Prevent Gun Violence simply helps people dispose of unwanted weapons. Instead of leaving a gun lying around the house, a person can take it to Guns to Gardens, which is raising money to buy back the weapons. Those unwanted guns will be melted and turned into spades and shovels to be used in community gardens. There will be public arts projects. Its a multi-year, statewide effort, an attempt to secure weapons so that they can no longer be used to harm.
This is especially important in safeguarding children. In New Mexico, children die by firearms at a rate almost 60 percent higher than the national average. A gun that is no longer functional cant be used to commit suicide or to play a game of Russian roulette or to shoot a friend accidentally.

There are cheaper ways to get hoes.
That’s. Just. Wrong.
Gardens vs guns, huh? I already know how that turns out.
Years ago when I was living in a diverse, crime ridden, violent inner city, a group of us decided to clean up a weedy lot and turn it into a “community garden.”
A positive endeavor for grownups, a learning experience for the children.
The rule, though, was that you reap what you sow. This was not free stuff for everybody. Only those who worked in the garden would be allowed to share the bounty.
We set about recruiting participants. We got 6 adult enthusiasts and their children, for a total of 11.
Mostly, though, we got comments like, “I gots food. Why I need to do dat?” “My peoples done done enough workin’ the fields. Ima relax.” and “Get off my porch. I ain’t your damn field n——a.”
So the participants fenced and tilled and watered, and the garden grew.
And the non-participants climbed and cut the fence and were seen running down the streets with arm loads of purloined produce, so often that it became necessary to post a guy with a gun to guard the garden.
Also Micah 4:3.
Sadly, I can see that dynamic coming into play.
Rather than try to teach people how to live in respect for others, the DNC tries to grant these people dignity and a righteous character. Surprisingly to them, it doesn’t work.
And of course, they really knew it all along.
All comes under the heading ‘class warfare’.
As I said, sad really. We’re not helping these folks improve their lives. We could.
I dunno. But if you see one, I’ll take it. I promise to love and cherish it.
We should encourage this. These bozos can work the fields with their new fangled farm implements when the collapse comes. I mean why deny them their communion with mother gaia?
Exactly. And since I’m getting a bit old for plowing fields, I think these fools are onto something.
Got a rifle rack in it?
LOL! No but the Hemi Ram has beaucoup room for various assorted arms. Sigh. If they hadn’t been lost in a tragic canoe accident that is. Seems to be a rash of that going on.
We could try to make pigs sing. But in the end, the pigs won’t sing and all we’ll have done is piss them off.
Well, I’m thankful that I don’t own any firearms to lose while canoeing. Beat them into plowshares dontchaknow.
A gun is already a garden tool. Use it to put meat on the table as part of the harvesting.
Guns are for defense against Black Lives Matter
He was a wise man. :)
There is no such thing as an unwanted gun. Every gun is special.
Aren’t guns garden tools already?
Deer, squirrels, rabbits, and raccoon removal.
I have no common ground with the likes of you sh**bird liebrul scum.
