Well I’ve given up on perfect. Was very worried about Corker but then that went away. I honestly don’t know between Newt, Pence, and Christie who he should pick. I don’t envy Trump this decision.

I think the route reference was related to “Bridgegate”.
They are building a new Tappan Zee bridge. I drive it frequently and the progress is amazing. Looks to be an impressive bridge when completed.
So we hear “reports” that Trump’s children are leaning toward Pence but Trump has a gut feeling to pick Christie. Then Newt comes out and says it’s between him and Pence.
Makes me wonder if Newt is attempting a power play to try to push Christie out of consideration.

I don’t expect any surprise here. Trump doesn’t want to feed the “Trump is unpredictable and shouldn’t have his finger on the button” nonsense.
Pence is not my favorite but I could see why Trump would pick him:
1)midwestern roots (MI, OH, etc.)
2)vanilla personality
3)GOPe connections
4)mainline conservative reputation
Yeah, me too. If someone put together a list of possibilities for "surprise VP" pick, then I'm wondering if we could figure it out by looking at flights....
Who wants to add to a list? I'm aware of the obvious (Blackburn, Fallin, West, Hunter, etc), but I wouldn't be able to list obscure people because I don't follow it that closely. When someone who knows flight tracking sees the list, it sure would make it easier for them.

I see you (and I) have the same belief that this has been a job interview process, not necessarily limited to the VP slot. At worst case he’s got his Cabinet staff pretty much selected (or de-selected) and in reality those positions are more influential than the VP (except in the case of succession).
Anyone who doubts that needs only consider the number of times the Constitution has been trampled and evil deeds donw by say, Eric Holder, than by Joe Biden.
If Newt is discussing openly then this open discussion is part of the aanouncement strategy that has Trump’s endorsement....
Trump is playing the press like a fiddle at a hoedown....

Sure, but that’s way too far north for a normal route into Manhattan when coming up from the south.
There is also the Verrazano but that is also not an optimal route into Manhattan especially if there is much traffic.
Gingrich has the major get-it-done skills Trump will need in an associate.
No one else could do what Newt could.
That is exactly what I was thinking. This looks too orchestrated. I think all of this was planned to to keep this at the top of the news.
That’s the bridge I used when coming in to NYC from Upstate. Driving the GW scares me when exiting it. When I was a child, we lived in the tallest building (at the time) on Riverside Drive. I loved watching the GWB light up at dusk.
I look forward to driving on the new Tappan Zee bridge.
