A Minnesota traffic stop turned deadly Wednesday evening as a police officer opened fire on a black driver.
The victim, 32-year-old Philando Castile, died at a Minneapolis hospital, a family member told The Washington Post. Castiles mother, Valerie Castile, told CBS Minnesota that her son had died at Hennepin County Medical Center.
The St. Anthony Police Department confirmed the drivers death during a brief Thursday morning press conference but did not identify the officer involved in the shooting or the officers race.
The bloody aftermath of the confrontation was broadcast live on Facebook by a female passenger in the car.
He killed my boyfriend, said the woman, whose Facebook page named her as Lavish Reynolds, as blood soaked through Castiles shirt.
In the video, Reynolds says Castile was legally licensed to carry a firearm and was reaching for his identification when the officer opened fire.
He let the officer know that he had a firearm and he was reaching for his wallet and the officer just shot him in his arm, she says.

I’ll use common sense and say he wasn’t a Crip. Thanks.
But who says he wasn’t following the instructions, as the girlfriend claimed?
I don’t assume either way, because I don’t know.
In America, selling CDs or having a tail light out are capital offenses. Selling your political office to foreign entities for personal gain and giving away state secrets is not a prosecutable offense.

“Are you one of those people that support LOE regardless like a Pavlov dog slobbering at the bell?”
Your personal insult is ineffective. Shows you can’t make your case and makes you look stupid.
“Theres a very wide area in the middle these days.”
No there is not.
From your post #62
“I have been pulled over many times,”
Really? I’ve been driving since 1969 and have NEVER been pulled over because I OBEY THE LAW.
Maybe you need to reevaluate what you are doing to get pulled over so many times.
All we have at this time is the girlfriend’s word about what happened. It’s best to wait for more facts before coming to a conclusion.
Why isn't common sense a requirement for the police officer?
“Maine is a Constitutional Carry state.”
Really? Where, in the Constitution is it stated: “you are required to inform him that you have a concealed weapon on your person or in your vehicle.”
Start ANY conversation with a stranger ANYWHERE in our society with the words “I have a gun”, and see how it turns out. STUPID!
“WHAT THE HELL ARE THEY TEACHING THESE KNUCKLEHEADS IN THE ACADEMIES?????”
They teach that everyone is a potentially deadly threat that may kill you without warning and the most important thing is to go home uninjured at the end of your shift.
Wow! I guess I know a lot of NC felons.
Ever heard the expression “Better to be judged by 12 than carried by 6”?
attitudinal negress bitches and moans about her loss
.... not to make light.. but the cop in the video sounds just like Joe the cop in Family Guy..
Watched this heartbreaking video but asking myself how she is able to turn on a cellphone and hold the camera still, letting it pan back and forth between inside the front seats and toward the police outside ALL at the same time stating that she has her hands up?
1) If my hands were holding a phone while someone had their guns drawn on me, there’s no way my hands would be that steady.
2) Why do so many incidences like this seem to be just one cop? Whatever happened to waiting for backup or riding two-to-a-car? These single policeman encounters seem to beg for alternate versions of events.
3) The video does not look staged but it does seem a bit odd because I can’t picture the girlfriend (the driver with her daughter in back) calmly getting out her phone while her boyfriend is bleeding to death and police have their guns drawn. That seems to be a very unnatural reaction.
He was the driver and that’s a right hand drive vehicle from what I can see in the video. Not sure of the make but there are some sold in the US.
that was intended to show the relationship between a stimulus and response. Sorry if you found it insulting. Does it fit?
Getting pulled over half a dozen times I’m my life means anything? Not to me it doesn’t. a more important measure to me would be actual accidents. You know, something that actually matters, versus a few miles over the speed limit. Brownie points for you always obeying the law.
Seeing that you are nearing retirement, I hope you can trade them the brownie points for an interest rate you can survive on. Getting a safe 6-7% is hard these days and the market is priced pretty high. Live well and know you are safe.
“He was the PASSENGER!!!!”
It looks that way because the video is reversed he is clearly sitting behind the wheel.
I’ve come to the conclusion that the people in the U.S. would probably be a whole lot safer if they just did away with their police forces and everyone carried a weapon and took care of their own protection.
Until they become like the robot cops from Elysium, even more quick to use violence against humans than the regular cops!
” right hand drive vehicle “
The video is inverted
