A police officer who was one of the first to arrive at the Pulse nightclub in Orlando has claimed he was made to wait while Omar Mateen wandered around the club gunning people down.
The FBI said this week that police first responders 'engaged the shooter' inside the club at 2.08am but Officer Brandon Cornwell said he had been told to wait for a SWAT team to arrive.
It is known that Mateen, who was heavily armed with an AR-15 assault rifle and a handgun and was feared to be carrying explosives, had an exchange of fire with a security guard when he first arrived at the LGBT club, which was holding its regular Latino night.

He was not armed with an AR-15 and a handgun, he was HEAVILY armed with an AR-15 and a handgun.
3 hours. How many bled out hoping for a rescue that never came......
This could be SOP in a hostage situation. I don’t know much about Law Enforcement.
The Shooter did NOT have an AR-15 or an Assault Rifle.
it is a lie that he had an “AR-15” but it makes no difference because there will be no law passed in violation of our second amendment rights.
The AR-15 having such vicious kick that it can burn a whiney progressives shoulder ever though /s
Who gave the order? And why they still employed by the LEO’s, if not being charged with aiding and abetting, and obstruction?
Don’t depend of the police for rescue is the takeaway lesson. Be armed yourself.
They are usually good folks but they also have families and actually aren’t required to wade into a violent situation.
lots of typos in that post ... sorry about that....
What did he actually have?
This is not the first time I’ve seen that said.
Leave the dirty work to the heathen.
1st in with “give him room to destroy”. A la Baltimore.
I know it’s not funny.
Colorado’s Columbine high school massacre taught us that cops will hide behind their cars while kids are getting killed, so what makes anyone think that has changed?
The role of the police: Secure the Scene, deploy crime scene tape, mark locations of bodies, collect evidence. Don’t expect the police to protect you under any circumstances.
If cops are forbidden to go into a hostile shooting situation until SWAT arrives, then why do they need guns at all, I mean besides for killing dogs and other pets.
This could be SOP in a hostage situation. I dont know much about Law Enforcement.
That’s the problem right there. We had an ISIS terrorist situation. Search and destroy. Period.
“3 hours. How many bled out hoping for a rescue that never came......”
Judging by the killed/wounded number not changing (incredible as that number always goes up in the days following shootings) I would say everyone who was wounded bad enough to bleed out did bleed out.
Protocol.
Political police commanders, like their military counterparts are slavishly loyal to adhering to Protocol.
Protocol and Indecision have probably killed more people than even the ISIS.
