Republican candidate Donald Trump focused this weekend on his economic platform: Cut taxes and regulations across the board while also saving Social Security, Medicare, and other government safety-net programs.
Trumps platform is nearly invincible in the general election if he stresses it enough, polling shows. Trumps plan will also have a transformational effect on how people view his party. But he still needs to make the accounting work to ensure that his Third Way platform is feasible.

Cutting taxes means cutting government - watch and wait for the pols’ screams of protest.
Why doesn’t the Media ask for Clinton’s list of SCOTUS picks?
“Trump clearly isnt serious if he is talking about saving socialist programs like SSI and Medicare. Those are anchors on this economy.”
“he really likes the idea of “Single Payer” better that Obama/Romneycare.”
Oh ye of little faith! I believe you will be pleasantly surprised when you see the changes in store. Keep in mind, this is a big mess and will need a big broom. It wont happen overnight. For starters,
Stop supporting third world countries.
Stop importing their citizens....many who hate us.
Stop supporting those citizens we are importing for life.
Let’s save those American programs like SSI and Medicare. These are programs the tax payer and employer paid into.
My parents, like others depend on them. They wouldn’t be anchors if the lock box wasn’t raided by... I think it was Teddy Kennedy. I could be wrong.
Lets cut federal waste and bureaucracy. Only a businessman would know how to do that.
Your candidate didn’t win. Either get on board this train or get out of the way.
Good....hope with SS one way is lift the cap off. (Meaning, once you make so much, I think around 120,000 you do not pay SS on the rest so say you make 450,000 you are only taxed on the first 120,000 you make).
Also hope he will kick those that did not pay into SS out! The word Refugees comes to mind for 1. People are claiming disabilities that I do not think truly have so scamming needs to be done away with. Please do away aid to anchor babies as well.
I agree, but the economy has to grow to make that work. Otherwise, a lot of younger people are going to be frozen out of the job market and young people are the ones paying for SS and Medicare.
During this recession which began in 2008 (and truly is still going on) people near retirement age have put off retirement mainly because their portfolios took such a hit in the crash and they can't earn any interest on savings. That has limited the upward mobility of young people and also frozen college graduates out of the professional job market.
Nothing wrong with people working as long as they feel like it, 'til the day they die if they want. But there have to be good jobs for young adults or we have other economical and societal problems.
-—The outright abandonment of Obamacare/Single Government Payer healthcare/insurance!!!-—
I think that is a given. The House has voted I believe 57 times to get rid of Obamacare so other stuff rises to the top of the Trump must do list
Trump needs to stop all the BS about himself and start acting and sounding like a real president, simply “polish” his rhetoric, tell us what and how he plans to “Make America Great Again” instead of telling how great Donald Trump is. He is a smart man and certainly not perfect but he CAN WIN this coming election if he settles down and gets his own act together. He needs to tell everyone WHY we should vote for him.
“Thats what we said about Romney.”
What is this “we” nonsense.
Romney was a terrible candidate but he could have easily beaten the unpopular Obama if he had just run a competent campaign.
Republicans won big in 2008 and 2012 despite the intense opposition from the media and the Washington elite.
Most people thought Romney would lose. But we knew he could have won if he had honestly and effectively articulated Obama’s many failures and the important issues facing our country.
Michael Dukakis thanks you for the vote of confidence in his moving to second worst.
Alas, I can't do the same and dislodge him from the top of the worst candidate champion position.
Bill played with Epstein’s underage girls on Epstein’s island but the bombshell is that so did Hillary. More than one person witnessed this and one has been interviewed about it but is scared because they have been threatened with death.
If I were running for president and wanted to win, I'd probably make the same promises he is making.
They can't be saved without trillions of dollars in benefits cuts or tax increases on working Americans.
There never was a "lock box" - the programs were always pay as you go, with each generation of workers paying for their parents' and grandparents' benefits.
Worked great when there were six workers for every retiree, not so well with two or three.
What happened in Orlando last week pretty much handed the election to Mr. Trump.
>Trump has apparently reached the conclusion that the American public is no longer able to face the truth about the inevitable collapse of Soc Sec and Medicare.
SS is actually quite sound if you eliminate the widly abused SS disability fund. Medicare has a fruad rate in the 30% range that’s being I gored. I don’t know if eliminating fraud is enough to save the program.
Save them?
Where is the Constitutional authority for them even to exist? Nowhere, of course ...
Privatize or abolish. "Saving" them is just attempting to polish a turd.
It is extremely difficult to get rid of the waste, fraud, abuse and incompetence from the federal government.
It is extremely difficult to enact conservative reforms and fix the government.
Trump is the only one who has any chance whatsoever of accomplishing it.
But never in such a way that it would actually be gotten rid of. All the votes were stand alone and easily vetoed. And funding for Obamacare has been included in spending authorizations.
Yes taxes and regulations are killing many U.S. businesses.
And Trump is a business man and he wants to cut many taxes and regulations for business .He understands how business work.
Go Trump! And many here call him a liberal. When did a liberal or democrat ever propose to cut taxes and regulations? Never that’s when.

8. Get rid of the EPA.
9. Cut Fed retirement plans.
10. Cut all exemptions from laws that apply to us from the Congress.
11. Appoint a special prosecutor to find out where each buck all upper level Feds got and the Congress. Apply Rico type tactics.
12. And on and on.
