Donald Trump's campaign is considering booking one of Cleveland's big sports venues for his acceptance speech in July, two GOP sources familiar with the planning of the upcoming GOP convention say.
The sources said First Energy Stadium, home of the Cleveland Browns, and Progressive Field, home of the city's Indians baseball team, are the two sites under consideration for Trump's acceptance speech on the final night of the convention.
One of the sources said the campaign is closing in on signing a contract for use of one of the two venues, with the football stadium currently the favorite for Trump's speech.
"It's going to be a big production," a Trump campaign adviser told CNN. "Given Trump's profile and how he handles things, nothing is off the table."
"And he's going to be intimately involved in it," the adviser added.

“If he really wanted to tweak the Dems hed have Greek columns . . .
Just sayin”
Now that is funny. You know that is something he might do.
ROFLOL! Or have one of those shipping container cranes periodically swoop down and knock the pesky troublemakers into the water.
Loudspeaker: "Cleanup on Dock #4 needed."
I guess we could throw them some life jackets. I won't be too mean. ;-)
I am worried about outside the venue. Screening lines expose legitimate event attendees to the violence of the lefty rioters. I expect massive attempts to disrupt the convention. That puts innocent citizens, and law enforcement, at risk of injury from these anarchist freaks.
To the contrary, the Browns would probably win the Superbowl this year. Karma works both ways :-)
ROFLOL. Nets? Must we?
The First Energy Stadium holds about 76,000, and Progressive Field only 38,000. I hope he goes for First Energy. 0bama drew about 80,000 to the stadium in Denver in 2008.
ROFL!! Good one!
Let him come out not on a red carpet, but a PURPLE one! With all the former Miss Americas and USAs dropping rose petals in front of him ........
But as a Constitutionalist, the optics are all wrong for this.... we are trying to get away from royalty!
One of the most endearing things about George Washington is that he was offered the all-power of King, and he turned it down cold. I have a sense that Trump would be that way as well. He is not lusting after power, but to serve the dream and true idea of America.
Nevertheless, I so look forward to that acceptance speech whatever pomp Mr Trump chooses to exhibit!
First Energy Stadium, home of the Cleveland Browns, and Progressive Field, home of the city’s Indians baseball team...
I’d do it at Progressive Field, just to piss off the Left.
The only way the Cleveland Browns will ever win the superbowl is by moving to another city and changing their name.
Something that brings his supporters from all four corners of the USA would be good, one that brings enough supporters to truly discourage protesters and other such folks from making trouble.
With five skydiving Playboy Bunnies.
Talk about lib media heads exploding.
This could be so fun. Half time show with__________
He love Lloyd Weber. Maybe something from one of the musicals for inspiration !
A little skeet competition before the show begins.
Bwahahah! Fun thread, great humor by all.
Let’s all go out and have a real Triumphal March of Aida with Hillary, Huma, Zero and all the administration in chains behind the throne carried by Ted, Beck, Levin, Jeb...
I’m certainly not an expert and not disagreeing with you. Just my first impression was the opposite, that it offers a much more controllable security environment. But I could be wrong.
Where are the FReeper security experts?
I actually found a discussion page on the internet.
http://ihrrblog.org/2014/07/22/security-risk-sport-mega-events/
From the page: “Sport Mega Events are laboratories for testing innovations in security technology which leads to security models that become standard practice.”
Seems to say because of the big security challenge it has been worked on, its vulnerabilities known and addressed. Crowds are directed to crowd zones.
If the parking lot is also secured from protests, then the large number of people attending the event have plenty of room to get to their cars.
The parking lot is a large area not dedicated to daily life as is the case of a convention center on a city street.
