Mike Lee(R-Utah) said Wednesday that he is not ready to endorse presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump
"I have not supported Donald Trump up to this point, I have not endorsed him," Lee said, according to The Washington Examiner.
"I have some concerns with him. He scares me to death; so does Hillary Clinton
. There is no easy choice right now." Lee had previously endorsed Ted Cruz
, before the Texas senator ended his presidential bid earlier this month. At the time, he said Cruz had a "proven record of fighting for our conservative values and for the issues that matter most to Americans."
The Utah senator said he plans to continue following the election and will make a choice in the future.
"I'll make the decision as best I can," he said, "but I'm not there yet."
Lee now joins several other Republican leaders, who have said they are not ready to endorse Trump or said that they don't plan to vote for the presumptive nominee in a general election.
Speaker Paul Ryan said last week that he was "just not ready" to endorse the presumptive GOP nominee.
All that is fine with Trump. It’s the trashing of the true blue conservative warriors that is pissing me off. I get it, Cruz was the final opponent. It always gets ugly. The continual trashing of him and making up shit after the fact is not pretty (by many here, not necessarily you). The trashing of Lee who has been nothing less than stellar as a reasoned voice in the Senate is another. This has reached a dangerous level with many here, and it really needs to stop.
I am all in with Trump for the general. I flirted with him in the primary but got very turned off by some of the far left things he said in January and February. That said, I’ve agreed with much of what he said, and he may well be the rare person who can get through the battle for the White House from a center-right position and actually get some things fixed. I get it with Trump. I don’t get supposed conservatives trashing the hell out of other proven conservatives day in and day out.
” There is no easy choice right now.”
Yes, Mike, there IS an easy choice: Hillary or Trump.
Trump or Clinton.
Your choice.
The time for choosing is now.
Easy choice for me.
Well stated!
A dark night probably also scares Mike Lee - not a brave soul if even Trump scares him. Hillary and Sanders scare me - they are determined to destroy this country.
You are so full of your own importance you can’t see the forest for the trees.
EVERY one of the Trump Will items listed are part and parcel of what Trump is all about. His lifelong devotion to the military, for example, belies your doubt that he will do anything about the decline in our Military.
YOU are a “DOUBTING THOMAS” in the extreme. YOU are obviously one of those people who can’t walk out the door without a guarantee that it will not rain. You want insurance on everything. Well, I have news for you. Life is a risk. Live with it!
And why wouldn't we? Just a few days ago it was reported that he was considering restarting his campaign if he did good in NE. There is no way that he could win aside from nefarious means (ie: parliamentary procedure in RNC to upend the will of the people). And he still is diddling with the delegates in Texas. Cruz is having a bad case of sour grapes and by his behaviour, working for the election of Hillary. Screw him. I hope nothing but the worst for the snake oil huckster and his rabid MSM supporters like Beck, Levin, Carpenter, and yes, Lee.
Mike Lee is up for election and the Utah GOPe isn't too happy that Bennett got the axe the last time. He is probably trying to ensure that the same thing doesn't happen to him. Either way, it shows what little character he has.
Trump scares me too.....But Hillary (or Bernie) scares me even more. I will vote for Trump.
” There is no easy choice right now.”
Yes, Mike, there IS an easy choice: Hillary or Trump. It’s that simple. And quite easy, actually. For example, who do you want to appoint the next three Supreme Court justices? Do you want to see the 2nd Amendment and most of the rest of the Constitution erased forever from history? If so, Mike, the choice is easy: you should support Hillary if that’s what you want.
Mike Lee: yet another fake conservative.
I’m in total agreement with you. Lee is with the insider’s club, and what he says is a tough choice now, is the same “tough choice” the party said was easy for the voters - pick amnesty McCain, pick amnesty Romney. Well, if it was supposed to be easy for the voters to pick the Republican, it should be easy for Lee to pick Trump. The fact that it isn’t tells you all you need to know.
How conservative is someone whose main lifetime employment is the govt? Or is limited govt principals only for the little people? When will he leave govt to work the private sector like a true conservative would?
.....................................................
I agree. Also add, how conservative is someone who votes FOR Obama’s wishes.
Who are you to preach about the Constitution when you don’t believe in Free Speech?
Trump’s candidacy has already had many benefits - this is one of them. It has exposed Mike Lee as actually leaning towards Hillary - unbelievable. His wimpy excuse “Trump scares me to death” just won’t hold if faced with the left-wing, corrupt, inept, and anti-USA Hillary.
“The only conservative left in Congress”.... JEFF SESSIONS... (according to non-other than El Rushbo)....ENDORSED and SUPPORTS Donald Trump!
SO what the hell is Mike Lee’s problem, and the rest of the so-called “conservatives” (a word which has totally been devalued to the point of being MEANINGLESS ANYMORE!
I agree!
+10
There may be a thing about Mormons and Alpha male politicians who aren’t Mormon. In the Three way race of 1912 where the Republicans split, Taft carried Utah, and out performed Roosevelt in Idaho and Wyoming as well. Though both states were carried by Wilson. Taft only lost Idaho to Wilson by 1100.
“Mormons tend to be over apologetic and always obsessing about not offending anyone.”
Generalizations always fail when applying them to large groups of humans.
Exhibit A: Mitt Romney, one of the nastiest, angriest, passive-agressive assholes, to ever grace the national stage.
Would you still feel this way if he had supported Mr. Trump during the primaries?
