Mike Lee(R-Utah) said Wednesday that he is not ready to endorse presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump
"I have not supported Donald Trump up to this point, I have not endorsed him," Lee said, according to The Washington Examiner.
"I have some concerns with him. He scares me to death; so does Hillary Clinton
. There is no easy choice right now." Lee had previously endorsed Ted Cruz
, before the Texas senator ended his presidential bid earlier this month. At the time, he said Cruz had a "proven record of fighting for our conservative values and for the issues that matter most to Americans."
The Utah senator said he plans to continue following the election and will make a choice in the future.
"I'll make the decision as best I can," he said, "but I'm not there yet."
Lee now joins several other Republican leaders, who have said they are not ready to endorse Trump or said that they don't plan to vote for the presumptive nominee in a general election.
Speaker Paul Ryan said last week that he was "just not ready" to endorse the presumptive GOP nominee.
No, its not "normal" for Utah to favor a dem...what planet do you live one?
Ummmm, that FR thread was posted in 2012 (the CSPAN video they were commenting on was from 2009), and the “selected quotes” were posts numbered one, two and three. The next few weren’t about Ryan, so I chopped it off there. Make threats all you want, it simply shows that you’re incapable of assembling counter-arguments, and have to run away like a coward and try to remove the opposition... not unlike the usual Leftist tactics. You must be so proud.
That last 1/3 will wait until Facebook and Twitter TELL them who to VOTE for.
he was the last man standing that still had my support. Cruz rubio lee gowdy paul. The only ones i trusted. Gone. All of them in my book.
Bump that.
There are significant reasons to be wary of a Trump presidency.
The plane’s engines have failed. It doesn’t look good. Hillary is not a pilot but thinks she can land it. I am not riding with her.
Trump has a parachute. (In fact, He has the best parachutes. Only four have ever failed to open.) He says I can tandem jump with him. But he’s never actually jumped. So ... yeah, I’m a little scared.
Some have put far too much faith in career-politician, Permanent Political Class DC Cartel members in the past. That is precisely why a businessman has bested a huge field of professional politicians this year. Rather than continuing the insanity of believing those who created the problem can fix it, most have looked beyond the Permanent Political Class this time around. Trump is a patriot who loves the US and who also believes in his brand. He can only preserve that brand by doing what he said he’d do. That option against more of the same old same old should be a no brainer.
Bingo!
Just who could be more of a "social conservative," than the man who makes it very clear that he puts his fellow countrymen, their liberty, jobs & other interests, first??
Incidentally, he also wants to get the Federal Government out of local education. Federal meddling in local education is one of the ways that traditional social values in America are being undermined--and parental influence diminished. Stopping that is very, very high on any real social conservative's list of priorities.
True, of course. My mistake in not being clearer. I meant for the nation overall, not just Utah. In most of our recent elections, the breakdown has likely always been 1/3, 1/.3, 1/3, especially this many months ahead of the election... and especially since no party has won a Presidential election in the last 43 years with more than 53% of the popular vote (Reagan II being the sole exception, and even then, he only got 58%). We are evenly divided, and remain so (although the efforts of the Left to forge a permanent majority have been alarmingly successful so far.)
No easy choice? What a loser. What is this cult-like attachment to one’s preferred candidate? It is like NFL / MLB / NBA / NHL playoffs: every team’s season ends with either a loss or by not making the playoffs. Except one. That is life and most kids come to that harsh realization while still in grade school. This time, my preferred candidate won the nomination. But in other years I sucked it up and supported the GOP nominee. If that is the price of keeping Shrillary out of the WH, is it really so much to ask?
“There is no easy choice right now.” Welcome to our world, Senator; we’ve felt that way for years.
Allow me to reflect and remind... Our choices over the course of the past 40-plus years have been Richard Nixon,Gerald R. Ford, Ronald Reagan, George H.W. Bush, Bob Dole, George W. Bush, John McCain and Willard “Mitt” (what’s a Mitt, anyway?) Romney. Only one conservative among the entire group.
The “elite” members of the party of which you’re a member - the “Rockefeller Republicans”, along with their allies in the Democratic Party, destroyed the candidacy of Barry Goldwater, the only lifelong conservative/libertarian Republican nominee since 1960. The same group successfully defeated Ronald Reagan (a bit of a latecomer to modern conservatism) in 1976, but failed in their attempts to defeat him in 1980. Now the McCain/Romney/McConnell/Boehner/Ryan Republicans are attempting to do the same to Donald Trump.
Our nominee this time is going to be Donald J. Trump. Is he a dyed-in-the-wool constitutional purist? No - and he never has been, but then, neither have ANY of the above, save Goldwater, who was more libertarian than conservative (and I had the honor and privilege to have known Senator/Major General Goldwater).
The GOP, the media and the Democrats have attempted to paint Mr. Trump with the populist brush and all the negative connotations it supposedly carries, especially the perception that, “...he’s only saying what he thinks people want to hear.” There are many of us - myself included - that recognize the fact that, while Mr. Trump is not a lifelong conservative, he is and always has been an American patriot. Most of his policy positions and, in my opinion, the most important ones, are not only conservative, but badly needed and things that you and your contemporaries in Congress should have done long ago, but refused to do. Have you considered the very real likelihood that Mr. Trump is not only saying the things that we want to hear, but the things that we have wanted McConnell, Boehner, McCain and YOU to say and do for years and that Mr. Trump is not only saying them, but means them?
There is a reason that almost 70 percent of registered Republicans feel betrayed by, and disenchanted with, the party of which we are members and I think you know that. We trust the “leaders” of the GOP - the enablers and facilitators of the Obama policies that are destroying the very fabric of this nation - almost as much as we trust Hillary Clinton. I, for one, am more inclined to trust a lifelong American patriot than another candidate hand picked by the GOP leadership - even if I don’t agree with everything he proposes.
We’ve been holding our noses and voting for your hand-picked candidates for years. Donald Trump is going to be the nominee from the Republican Party and now it’s your turn to hold your noses, vote for OUR nominee and hope for the best. As a reminder, our track record is substantially better than yours...
Trump for President.
“I’m scared”.....from a U.S. Senator.
“I have not supported Donald Trump up to this point, I have not endorsed him,” Lee said, according to The Washington Examiner.
“I have some concerns with him. He scares me to death; so does Hillary Clinton
Mormon mafia. It’s Romney that he is really scared of, IMO.
Cruz’s right hand man. People needs to realize its the Donald or the Hildabeast
We will so enjoy her Supreme Court Justice picks and elimination of our our Second Amendment Rights while she keeps our borders open!
Well said!
+1
I don’t know what’s happened. Lee said he was scared? Are you kidding me? It is totally different today. We grew up in a generation of alpha males. I am completely comfortable and actually enjoy the way Trump is. Trump is a breath of fresh air and my dad and uncles would have LOVED HIM.
And Obama’s style doesn’t...? Are Mormons really OK with pathological liars like Obama and Hillary?
