Moscow meda claims terrifying weapon can dodge radar defences and bring destruction to an area the size of 'Texas or France'

Russia is preparing to test-fire a nuclear weapon which is so powerful it could reportedly destroy a whole country in seconds.

The "Satan 2" missile is rumoured to be the most powerful ever designed and is equipped with stealth technology to help it dodge enemy radar systems .

This terrifying doomsday weapon is likely to strike fear into the hearts of Western military chiefs, as current missile defence technology is totally incapable of stopping it.

Its official name is the RS-28 Sarmat and it will replace aging Soviet R-36M missiles, which NATO military experts nicknamed "Satan".

"In this sense, the Sarmat missile will not only become the R-36M's successor, but also to some extent it will determine in which direction nuclear deterrence in the world will develop," the Russian news network Zvezda reported .

The missile is expected to be capable of delivering up to a dozen warheads, allowing to effectively destroy an area the "size of Texas or France", the broadcaster continued.

It is expected to have a range of 10,000 km, allowing Moscow to attack European cities including London as well as major cities on America's west and east coasts.

Funny how a “Christian nation” names its weapons after the god of this present age instead.

“The Super devil !”

Anyway, I don’t believe this for a moment. Anything capable of flat-out destruction of that scale would cause serious damage to the whole planet. An army with 20 of these would literally be a “Planet killer”.

What are the Russians gonna do ? Drop pamphlets on US Soil that layout their plans for a nuclear power plant and hope we build it ?

Also, nice SCTV reference.. I loved that skit. That and “COSSACKS”

Sadly true sarcastic post of the day:

I’d also work out a treaty for some testing to make sure these old things still work.

We launch four to six Minuteman III ICBMs every year for the Follow On Test & Evaluation (FOT&E, or "Foot Shot" program.

These missiles are randomly selected from the operational Wings and shipped to Vandenberg AFB, CA. The missile is installed by the original Wing maintenance crews and then launched by the original Wing operations crews. The only thing not original on the bird are the nukes, which are replaced with either inert or telemetered re-entry vehicles.

The CIA and DoD have likely known this is in the works for some time and countermeasures are being or are developed.
The hype from the Russians sounds like this might just be the Russian version of Star Wars, though the Russian government itself is putting out the hyperbole.
Reagan allowed outlets like Popular Science to speculate and do thoughtful articles on how space based x-ray lasers would work and the MSM carried it from there. The government just didn't "confirm or deny." In this case the hype just might produce unintended consequences for Russia in the form of rapidly and vastly improved technology in America because we don't rely on Russia to be the source of our knowledge. Back in the 80's they relied on leaks and what they thought was stolen computer technology to chase after countermeasures to Space Wars and other projects. They barked expensively and extensively up a whole forest of wrong trees and accelerated the wastage of the resources remaining from their plunder of Eastern Europe in the late 40s and the 50s.

A number of folks here proclaimed Russia to no.longer be a threat to the US.
This new ICBM development says otherwise.

And the State Department that needs to prolong the Cold War for the sake of their phoney-baloney jobs, eats it up.

Destroy the entire country?

What the heck good would a missile like that be to anyone except a muslim?

The spoils of war would be...spoiled.

Should have read that; sorry.

What is with the name “Sarmat” (after Sarmatians), anyway? Those were a people who apparently worshiped a god of fire, historically.

Then they must have tested or have a nuke that will yield 40 times the power of the Tsar Bomba (100 MT). Because that bomb, if it were detonated dead center of France would only destroy an area at a radius of about 300-400km at most....with an estimate of 170k-200k fatalities.

So, I call BS.

Sounds like some sort of nuke shot gun.

Indeed it does. Photo of a MIRV reentry test shot:

I would think its probably very, very fast. The stealth goes away if it is launched in an ICBM manner as the heat detection would be a give away.

If it is air launched or Sub Launched...and fast, that would be a dangerous thing.

I wonder if it is faster than a laser?

I know the muslim London comment was meant to be sarcastic. I am not so sure anymore. I think the Russians are concerned about the influx of immigrants and the bad blood that is starting between the Baltic and Slavic nations who are telling Brussels to pound sand in terms of accepting refugees.

Russia is very concerned.
