New York City Mayor Bill de Blasios Human Rights Commission released Friday new guidelines forcing bartenders in the city to serve pregnant mothers alcohol.
The guidelines say discriminatory stereotypes about what is in the best interest of the health of the fetus are impermissible by law.
Judgments and stereotypes about how pregnant individuals should behave, their physical capabilities and what is or is not healthy for a fetus are pervasive in our society and cannot be used as a pretext for unlawful discriminatory decisions in employment, housing, and public accommodations, the guidelines state.
The new guidelines were issued to clarify the New York City Human Rights Law, which bars discrimination on the basis of pregnancy or perceived pregnancy, according to the guidelines.
The guidelines provide examples of actions that constitute discrimination toward the pregnant, one of which is a restaurant policy that prohibits staff from serving pregnant individuals raw fish or alcohol.

At least when it comes to tirelessly seeking and destroying blog pimps.
More likely the welfare of the bar to avoid the inevitable "fetal alcohol syndrome" lawsuit. Hope there is a "hold harmless" clause to that order.
So have I. And I think doctors would probably agree. But as with everything else they do, their decisions are motivated by the fear of a lawsuit.
I can just see stupid women whose doctor says a drink is okay overdoing it, winding up with a fetal alcohol baby and then suing the doctor because after all he said she could drink.
First of all, restaurants are not interested in anybody’s health. They are simply liability averse.
Second — I think it’s OK to feed booze into pregnant women. Short of regular alcoholic binges, there is nothing harmful about a pregnant woman having an evening cocktail or a glass of wine with dinner. I really have no patience with the nannying and shame-mongering of prohibitionists.
And before anyone objects that no doctor will name a guaranteed safe level of alcohol consumption for pregnant women, consider that no doctor will name a guaranteed safe level of anything.
No. de Blasio is actually more stupid than even this.
Somebody has to do it.
It takes time but can be fun and sometimes is rewarding.
Just like any other worthwhile endeavor.
Wow
I agree with Commie Mayor for once
It’s the woman’s decision not the effing government
Safe level of alcohol? That’s easy.
None.
My husband makes enough for us to live on, my waitressing and barttending are for fun. I know she would still get alcohol somewhere, but I won’t be the one to assist her in hurting her child. I’ve seen FAS up close and personal and it’s quite sad-his birth family (aunts, uncles, and a sibling) are all professionals who do quite well. His brain is forever damaged by his mother’s drinking.
My wife smoked Marlboros and drank Fosters or PBR

Probably a good thing for you that you need not rely on yourself for a living.
It affords you the luxury of giving up your job for something that makes no difference.
Three cheers and a Tiger for you.
Can’t serve them a Big Gulp, though!

Excellent comment.
How much did she drink?
Did the child have the noticeable symptom of fetal alcohol syndrome:
a smooth ridge between the upper lip and nose
No, that would be communism. Just micro-managing private business is called fascism, and everyone knows fascism is far better than communism.
Oh that's coming as soon as the pedophiles can get the public used to seeing them running around with kids after their scouting trips.
I’m right there with you. It’s stunning how warped the liberal mind is.
Yep-diagnosed by a psychiatrist at Mayo Clinic.
That, along with your spirited moniker, is funny. I don't care who you are, that's funny.
