The Anti-Defamation League (ADL) today urged presidential candidate Donald Trump to reconsider his use of the phrase America First as a slogan describing his approach to foreign affairs, citing its anti-Semitic use in the months before Pearl Harbor by a group of prominent Americans seeking to keep the nation out of World War II.
The most noteworthy leader of the America First Committee was Charles Lindbergh, who sympathized with the Nazis and whose rhetoric was characterized by anti-Semitism and offensive stereotypes, including assertions that Jews posed a threat to the U.S. because of their influence in motion pictures, radio, the press, and the government.
The undercurrents of anti-Semitism and bigotry that characterized the America First movement including the assumption that Jews who opposed the movement had their own agenda and were not acting in Americas best interest is fortunately not a major concern today, said Jonathan A. Greenblatt, ADL CEO. However, for many Americans, the term America First will always be associated with and tainted by this history. In a political season that already has prompted a national conversation about civility and tolerance, choosing a call to action historically associated with incivility and intolerance seems ill-advised.
In a letter to Mr. Trump, ADL urged him to refrain from using the slogan in the future.
As a 501(c) (3) organization, ADL does not support or oppose candidates for public office.
Jonathan A. Greenblatt - did you know Hitler liked iced tea? Shall we all give up drinking ice tea?
Let’s get real here Jonathan... what’s your alternative? American last? Fifth?
Get real... this is more leftist blather.
Need I say more?
ADL like so many social activist organizations has been taken over by the hard left and should be seen as another fake group scamming people for money while doing nothing.
Boy, I certainly assume this will immediately change Donald Trump’s language, he’d certainly not want to be on the wrong side of the ADL who is bringing up how a phrase was used 80 years ago...
To hell with the ADL.
its amazing these speech nazis exist...
but when its libtard left agenda its fine...
So, does anyone think the people on the board or committee that makes up the ADL votes for Republicans? In ANY election?
All this is is more democrat party propaganda.
Nothing more.
Straight from a democrat party affiliate.
This crap about, "There are those who remember the 1930's..."
Sure.
And they are all either dead or in their 90's, and more concerned with their clostomy bags than the words Trump chooses to get across his message. In truth, most who actually do remember that epoch are fanatically behind Trump if they are still compos mentis.
NOT guilty!

I’m a student of history, so, of course, I knew the 1930s association. Even after the media flogs this storyline a bit, I’d bet if they did a poll, they wouldn’t find even 10% of the public that recognized the slogan’s historical roots. Of that paltry percentage, even fewer would object.
I’m sure Rich Lowry with his liberal arts degree will be appalled, but objections from clowns like him further strengthens Trump.
The way to counter the Lindberg anti-Semitic isolationist stance is to point out that after we entered the war, he devoted his full attention to helping us win it. In so doing he rehabilitated himself. Recycling is good, right? Well, let’s recycle this phrase.
“This is where The Donald shines, bringing the enemy out into the open”
Great point! More of the same here: unrelated name-calling ad hominem attacks toward someone for a legitimate policy position.
Really?
Lew Rockwell: If You Say America First Youre a Nazi

Its yet another neocon lie, and a particularly stupid one.
Bloomberg Columnist Says Trumps America First Speech is Nazi Rhetoric
Republican frontrunner’s vow to “put the interests of Americans first” draws dark comparison

It doesn’t sound like the ADL is calling Trump a Nazi. It sounds like they’re asking him not to use the phrase because of its historical meaning.
Is the ADL overreacting here? Maybe. It wouldn’t be the first time.
BTW, I’m married to a sweet Jewish lady. :)
America should be first today. First tomorrow. First always.
ADL thinks it should be an “Israel First, America Distant Second or Third”
Hates Christian Americans with a hot heat. What ADL orders - do the opposite.
America First!
Who didn’t see this coming? We have come to the point where putting one’s country first is attacked.
BTW, Gerald Ford was a member. JFK contributed money to the group.
Further, the group disbanded two days after Pearl Harbor. As we all predicted two days ago, here come the neocon knives.
