Suggesting that Bernie Sanders has been treated unfairly by the Democratic Party, Donald Trump on Tuesday said that the Vermont senator should abandon his run for the Democratic nomination and instead seek an independent path to the White House.
"Bernie Sanders has been treated terribly by the Democrats both with delegates & otherwise," Trump tweeted. "He should show them, and run as an Independent!"
Sanders and his campaign have indicated that the senator, who was still listed as an independent on his Senate website as early as this month, will continue to be a Democrat in future elections.

No kidding.
Just who the opposition is at any given time is variable, but he's good at it.
And the fire here is not quite out when he starts another one over there.
Some would, and would help Donald. Some would stay with Bernie and would hurt Hillary. Either way he wins.
Trump's said he's been treated badly as well. So when does he declare as an independent?
Agreed. This is brilliant, imho.
Trump is exposing that the political parties, I think that Rush calls them 'private businesses' in the name of government are corrupt to their very core. Too bad you have been conditioned to believe there is a difference.
Political party elections are not the same as an election to a government office. It’s a semi-private organization that doesn’t necessarily have to accept anyone who wants to join as its members. There should be mechanisms in place to prevent enemies of the party from crossing over and installing the candidates they want. I would limit primary voters to people who actually donated to the party, as a loyalty test. Any American is free to run for office as an independent or to form their own party.
Ha I’d love that
Just by tweeting this, he has won.
He's dog-whistling to the Bernie crowd, as he has been doing for some time. "Join me, and help me fight corruption!" It's not like those people like Hillary anyway. Peeling even a very few is a win that cost him nothing more than a tweet (which will be much discussed) and a few throw-away lines in rallies.
Hillary now has to respond by appealing to Bernie voters, who she really shouldn't have to beg for... making her appear weak.
And... just a little tweak at the GOPe, too.
Or have a year or two waiting period before they can vote in the party primaries.
That would be nice but then Cruz would jump in to be the fourth and that would be sub-optimal.
"You can register as a Republican, I guess, but don't mistake that for actually having a voice in our private enterprise."
"If you give us enough money, you'll be allowed to join in the selection, but only in a minimal way. Mainly, just accept your Deputy Delegate status and await instructions."
:>)
Yeah, that would give Trump the election.
Would make an interesting Electoral Map........................a four way split....................
I will donate money to Sanders if he runs as an independent against the criminal Clinton!
I will not be by myself with that action.
