(CNSNews.com) - Republican Donald Trump, appearing on Thursday's "Today" show, said transgenders should be allowed to "use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate."
"So if Caitlyn Jenner were to walk into Trump Tower and want to use the bathroom, you would be fine with her using any bathroom she chooses?" host Matt Lauer asked Trump.
"That is correct," Trump said.
Asked for his view on the North Carolina bathroom controversy, Trump said the state has "paid a big price" for requiring transgenders to use the restroom that corresponds with their biological sex.
"Leave it the way it is," he said.
"One of the best answers I heard was from a commentator yesterday, saying 'Leave it the way it is right now.' There have been very few problems. Leave it the way it is. North Carolina, what they're going through with all of the business that's leaving and all of the strife, and that's on both sides -- you leave it the way it is.
"There have been very few complaints the way it is. People go, they use the bathroom that they feel is appropriate. There has been so little trouble. And the problem with what happened in North Carolina is the strife, and the -- the economic punishment that they're taking."

Trump said he doesn't know if he has any transgender people working for him. "I probably do, I really don't know."
Trump noted that there's a "big move to create new bathrooms" for transgenders.
"First of all, I think that would be discriminatory in a certain way. It would be unbelievably expensive for businesses and for the country. Leave it the way it is."

I don’t care what the government dictates, nor the states... if there’s a man in the restroom I’m in, he gets the pepper if he does not exit. Those making the rules now days are nuts. If enough calls them on their dumb rules, it would not stand.

Actually, that's not what he said. He said the issue should be returned to the states where it belonged, and that passing a federal marriage law was not one of the top 3 priorities for a president. But he did say passing a religious freedom law that would protect people who didn't want to participate in same-sex marriages WAS a priority.
I thought the supreme court made the laws?

So Trump just couldn't stand up for the majority of folks that feel this is sick and twisted to have a guy walking into the ladies bathroom.
Jenner is well known and has his own fledgling program to promote this weirdness so using him as an example sanitizes to topic. Makes it a lil easier to swallow...pardon the pun.

There was already a group put together, and they already came up with a solution. Their solution was to leave that decision up to each individual state.
Trump (to my or our knowledge) doesn’t have any ‘young daughters’ to worry about. Hence, his stance on this issue.

This is bad news for Cruz. Putting this issue front and center will just push more anti-Trump votes to Kasich.
That’s a good point. I’ve noticed that MANY restrooms in NYC are ‘single’ stalls....enclosures with their own closing/locking doors, then a shared sink area, just outside. It was a bit startling, at first, then you get used to it.
However....at Trump Tower there are separate Men’s and Women’s restrooms (on the lower floor). The entrances are right next to each other (open type entrances).
Yeah. And it won't be the first time those strong-willed gals in his life will have to set him straight. We're hiring him to save the US from the trash heap of failed civilizations, not to research a question, form a focus group, and give a political-correct answer designed to maximize his votes before he answers a question.
It shouldn’t surprise anyone that Trump is a person who would rather not discuss social issues at all.
He was pushed into a hypothetical verdict for a specific person - Jenner which was transmogrified across the whole spectrum.
Regardless, it is his fault for not having a wonk beside him that can see tricks like this. My guess would be is that here is another example of a MSM bent to help Cruz deny him the first round win because they really fear he can beat Hillary - something of which I am comfortably sure Cruz can do despite these push polls saying otherwise.
