A mysterious planet that wiped out life on Earth millions of years ago could do it again, according to a top space scientist.
And some believe the apocalyptic event could happen as early as this month.
Planet Nine a new planet discovered at the edge of the solar system in January has triggered comet showers that bomb the Earths surface, killing all life, says Daniel Whitmire, of the University of Louisiana.
The astrophysicist says the planet has a 20,000-year orbit around the sun and, at its closest to us, it knocks asteroids and comets toward Earth.
Fossil evidence has suggested most life on Earth is mysteriously wiped out every 26 million to 27 million years.

Thanks for response and further elaboration.

‘Other factors’...LOL!
Bridge of Sighs. Damn I hadn’t thought of them in years. I’ve got the vinyl somewhere.
Yeah, it’s pretty amazo!
Golden Earring? Own ‘Switch’, by any chance?
How could we explore this further? Anyone?
We can only hope.
Well, if the map of earthquakes recorded recently in Yellowstone is correct, then a surprising number of “M6” earthquakes have occurred in the region recently. These are strong earthquakes not the usual lower magnitudes common for the area.
That’s assuming the map is correct and really did come from someone from the Univ of Utah. Who knows its some website with an annoying amount of pop-up ads. I may have reason to worry about my phone more than Yelloowstone after visiting that site.
Anyway, as another pointed out, not much can be done about it, should it chose to erupt. All life on the planet (higher than a bacterium or maybe simple fungi or algae) would be dead in 5 years. No “prepping” would save anyone either.
The science is settled. We need more money!
Tax everything immediately!!
Thanks for the ping, SunkenCiv!
As one who has read Sitchen, am praying that planet never DOES appear! That would be very good news indeed! I hope it stays firmly in the realm of nuttery and the astral plane. That is where it needs to be. If it WERE in our physical reality, it would be almost too overwhelming to contemplate and face.
Thanks for all you do to help us with historical perspective in the archaeological articles you bring to us. It is an important service.
But wouldn’t the Black Knight satellite save us all from this impending doom? It hasn’t been orbiting us for thirteen thousand years for nothing.
I'll take a fire lizard, dragons are too much work.
That reminded me of when I was in High School and on Wednesday or Thursday I would phone a girl and ask for a date, often I would hear, " I can't go, I'm washing my hair Saturday night."
(I wound up marrying a girl from San Jose who washed her hair on Friday night)
Waste anything but time.
I might end up being in the primary ash zone if the Yellowstone mega eruption sets off Mt. Rainer and/or Mt. St. Helens. I visited the latter not long after 1980 eruption. Looked like another planet. ....maybe Planet X.
Yup!
Not found. Theorized. I think it is a black hole and we are circling the drain... then one day we will be flushed.

Me too! I still have vials of ash.
The image of bare trees all laying down like matchsticks in the same direction for mile after mile is seared into my memory.
