‘Fair Trade’: Ted Cruz Rejects GOP Orthodoxy, Joins Jeff Sessions Populist Revolt
Breitbart ^ | 3/31/2016 | Michelle Moons

Posted on 03/31/2016 5:11:07 PM PDT by lodi90

Presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz pledges to “stand up for fair trade” in a new state-wide Wisconsin ad hitting on international trade deals, a signature issue of frontrunner Donald Trump’s campaign.

“Free trade” is generally seen as a globalist policy in which restrictions on imports and exports are kept to an absolute minimum. “Fair traders,” on the other hand, argue that purely free trade can have negative consequences for the citizens of a particular country, especially when it comes to wages and employment opportunities for the lower and middle classes. They recommend that sovereign nations negotiate and implement trade deals that prioritize their own people first. This debate has been a centerpiece of the 2016 primary season as both political parties have seen populist factions revolt against their respective establishments over what they view as unfair free trade deals.

Cruz, speaking directly to the camera, says:

Wisconsin is a beautiful place where the people place solutions over slogans.

Our campaign is for the working moms, the truck drivers, the mechanics, and the machinists with calluses on their hands. It’s for the farmers and factory workers and the families who worry about prices going up while paychecks stay flat. It’s for the young people coming out of school unable to find a job.

I’m going to stand up for fair trade, and bring our jobs back from China.

We will see wages going up. We’ll see opportunity again.

We’ll see a President who will stand with the people of Wisconsin, and Americans everywhere.

This is a significant change in policy and rhetoric for Cruz away from Republican party’s limitless trade orthodoxy.

Interview with Trump 1988 RNC

Here's an interview back in 1988 where Trump was at the RNC.

So are you lying for lying Ted or just ain't got your facts straight?

Cruz must think people are stupid and can’t remember what Cruz said at the debate. Even Cruz’s surrogates in Wisconsin were just the other day saying Trump is an evil protectionist, that manufacturers are doing great in Wisconsin, and that free trade is great and all we need are lower taxes and less regulations to fix problems they dont believe exist.

#70 Good for him.

He also funded many leaders of the Rat Party like harry Reid, schumer, pelosi and most importantly Hillary for president in 08.

So if you are claiming his bona fides on helping Reagan the same goes for his intense support for the Democrats afyerwards.

Has he put out ONE original position/idea yet? It’s been all about Trump, aping him, mocking him. Fairly breathtaking.

Seems he caught Cruz in the crosshairs with that act.

Cruz is for abortion now, that’s what I’m reading.

10 steps ahead, not bought by the GOPe.

“Free trade” is generally seen as a globalist policy in which restrictions on imports and exports are kept to an absolute minimum.

This is not what is happening. Our exports have a tariff placed on them but we don't tariff imports in retaliation. It is one-side Free Trade. Fair trade is imposing tariffs on imports to equalize the playing field. Good God journalist are stupid.

“Whoa. Talk about blatant pandering and stealing Trump’s ideas.”

Cruz is being barely 1% as “flexible” as Trump. Why all the hate?

Why do you continue to post that blatant lie.

He is telling the truth

Ted Cruz and Paul Ryan pen Wall St. Journal op-ed advocating 'fast track' trade authority to expedite 'historic' international trade deals, April 21, 2015, say TPA will send 'signal to the world' that 'US is trustworthy'

#81 you need me to post quotes of Trump’s support for Hillary for Pres. In 08 or his quotes about her being a great S.O.S.?

Perhaps the list of his donations to the Hillary for President 08 campaign will be good?

But here are some of TED CRUZ’s endorsements:

Pretty impressive, aren’t they.

..............................................

“..his son Duncan Hunter has endorsed Donald Trump..”

While I like the way Duncan Hunter, the son, stands up for our military, I don’t think he’s nearly as wise as his dad.

He even wants women to be forced to sign up for the military.

harry Reid, schumer, pelosi and most importantly Hillary for president in 08.

Did you ever stop to think that it was part of business ?
He has serious real estate holdings in Las Vegas, Las Angels, SanFran, all over NY city.

Did you ever build a real estate development company ?

Did you ever do business in a city, where it’s expected to take care of the local politicians ?

#94 Did you ever stop to think supporting Reagan was just doing business?

That explanation cuts both ways

Supporting the AWB wasn’t just business. Supporting PP wasn’t just business. Those are personal!

Sorry, that list doesn’t impress me. It’s a bunch of career political whores worried about losing their gig.

I didn’t know that Hunter’s stand was pro women in the draft but it is mine. Either we are equal under the law or we’re not. Don’t want to draft women? Then end the draft for men as well.
