‘Fair Trade’: Ted Cruz Rejects GOP Orthodoxy, Joins Jeff Sessions Populist Revolt
Breitbart ^ | 3/31/2016 | Michelle Moons

Posted on 03/31/2016 5:11:07 PM PDT by lodi90

Presidential candidate Sen. Ted Cruz pledges to “stand up for fair trade” in a new state-wide Wisconsin ad hitting on international trade deals, a signature issue of frontrunner Donald Trump’s campaign.

“Free trade” is generally seen as a globalist policy in which restrictions on imports and exports are kept to an absolute minimum. “Fair traders,” on the other hand, argue that purely free trade can have negative consequences for the citizens of a particular country, especially when it comes to wages and employment opportunities for the lower and middle classes. They recommend that sovereign nations negotiate and implement trade deals that prioritize their own people first. This debate has been a centerpiece of the 2016 primary season as both political parties have seen populist factions revolt against their respective establishments over what they view as unfair free trade deals.

Cruz, speaking directly to the camera, says:

Wisconsin is a beautiful place where the people place solutions over slogans.

Our campaign is for the working moms, the truck drivers, the mechanics, and the machinists with calluses on their hands. It’s for the farmers and factory workers and the families who worry about prices going up while paychecks stay flat. It’s for the young people coming out of school unable to find a job.

I’m going to stand up for fair trade, and bring our jobs back from China.

We will see wages going up. We’ll see opportunity again.

We’ll see a President who will stand with the people of Wisconsin, and Americans everywhere.

This is a significant change in policy and rhetoric for Cruz away from Republican party’s limitless trade orthodoxy.

Let me guess Cruz will impose a heavily high tax tariff on any foreign built motorcycle?

“Let me encourage other members of the establishment: Keep supporting Donald Trump because every time you do it, what it is doing is telling conservatives all over the country is where you stand and who stands with you”.
- Ted Cruz, New Hampshire stump speech

perfect example of him saying one thing and then doing another.

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

Voting for yet another ivy league lawyer who became an elected official who has not even finished his first term is insanity,

You can’t pretend to be a populist and have a background as a Harvard lawyer and at Goldman Sachs

I agree, he borrows from Trump pretty liberally. Too bad Cruz’s masters will never let him do this if he were to be elected.

#2 Hehehe Yeah it’s great isn’t it. Just yesterday Trump tried stealing a Conservative position too.

Then he flipped

Then he flopped

Then they denied flipping and flopping

Then he released a clarification....or at least someone with a brain in his camp did.

Playboy Ted no longer has a principled bone in his body. At this rate Cruz would be Pro-Choice in the general. The man flank attacks more than Patton

Poor teddy, if it wasn't for Donald Trump's beliefs and speeches, he wouldn't have anything winning at all to say.

Cruz is a visionless, wholely owned by his donors and advisors automaton, who parrots others and has no mind/thoughts of his own.

Because when he had a chance to vote for TPP as a freshman senator from Texas, he voted for it. Cuz that’s what (insert modifier here) conservatives do. What are you some isolationist?

It doesn’t matter. The people who are voting for him at this point think he’s the leader of the End Times. They don’t care about fixing the economy and creating middle class jobs. They’re happy to support Ted as long as he keeps blaming Trump for everything and singing all the correct hymns.

...despite all the GOP-e propaganda, internal polls must show his support falling off in Wisconsin: perhaps due to an unexpected Kasich surge.
