Rush Limbaugh’s blessing of Trump is killing conservatism
Washington Post ^ | 3/28/2016 | Michael Gerson

Posted on 03/28/2016 10:24:42 PM PDT by GilGil

If Donald Trump becomes the Republican nominee, one of the main reasons will be that many in the conservative movement found him acceptable. And one of the main reasons that many conservatives are finding Trump acceptable is that the most influential political talk radio host in history, Rush Limbaugh, has provided his blessing.

Not his endorsement. Limbaugh takes pains to preserve neutrality between Trump and Ted Cruz, whom he describes as the obvious choice “if conservatism is the dominating factor in how you vote.”

But Limbaugh has also consistently defended Trump as a legitimate choice for those whose dominating factor is the humiliation of “the establishment.”

Gerson does not seem to understand that first you have to win then you can preach conservatism. Conservatism seems to have it backwards. Lose everything and stay pure and principled. Limbaugh is more pragmatic. If Trump wins he does not want to be left out of the limelight like Levin. Limbaugh understands the gravy train.

I think Rush was losing ratings when he promoted Rubio or even Cruz.

Trump is the only guy with the balls and money to destroy the GOPe. The voters have figured it out. We want the existing political establishment out of power and government axed 20-30%.

The richest counties in America shouldn’t be anywhere near D.C.

Trump is the tool to destroy the power structure. He’s our revolution.

I’m not buying this.

Rush has not been favorable to Trump “AT ALL”.

It has been exasperating at times.

The idea Trump got Rush’s blessing is a pipe dream > IMO.

You are generous. A 50% cut in government would be very nice.

I agree. Rush has been very biased against Trump. I think he is losing big in the ratings and this is a way for him to mitigate the damage. I’ve seen a side of Rush where he cares a lot about his paycheck and I think he may be taking quite a hit on the revenue side.

Unlike Levin who is going down the tubes, Rush likes his private jet and 20,000 square foot house.

I would bet Everything I have that the Federal workforce could be reduced by 80 percent in most departments and still function fine.

The ones caught missing for a year but getting paid, looking at porn, working for the union their whole shift, they were CAUGHT.

God only knows how many others do nothing.

Agree.

Axing Dept of Education would be a good start.

Trump will save us trillions. Competitive drug pricing for medicaid and medicare alone will do that.

It’ll be a drastic change with lots of losers looting the system right now. That’s why they are ALL aligning against Trump. Wouldn’t be surprised to see the GOPe come out and endorse hillary.

Rush has said many times that he would ‘vote for any one of these guys’ over Hillary Clinton. No, not an endorsement - but I think his acceptance of Trump as a candidate is meaningful...especially while the party leadership is plotting third party games.

Government needs to be axed as close to 100% as is possible, and it needs to stay that way!

I think the writer got it mostly right.

Rush is a little too lenient on Ted, but he’s overall fair to Trump. Surprisingly so at times.

Also keep in mind that Trump has not given Rush any interviews. Trump would be a huge boost for Limbaugh. Trump is perfectly happy going to other news outlets. Rush is missing out.

I worked at Chase, Citi and Lazard corporate offices in Manhattan.

I’d say my average up time was 65 to 70 percent.

These are PRIVATE, profit driven companies.

If they had room to cut 30 percent, just Imagine what the fd gov could cut!!

Pelosi said there’s nothing left to cut. Shortly after she said that, the stories about porn watching, some guy not showing up for years and other working for the union came out.

she, well so many, disgust me.

I have always liked Rush. I haven’t always agreed with him, and I have been disappointed at times.

This was a tough year. I tend to agree with you on at least part of what you said.

He said some good things about Trump but then almost seemed upset with himself that he had, and he tried to make up for it or something.

I was telling someone else that I thought he was somewhat gracious at times, and then he would almost seem sorry and try to make up for it by being hard on him.

I saw others that seemed to think he was pretty hard on him too.
