In Donald Trumps Worldview, America Comes First, and Everybody Else Pays
By DAVID E. SANGER and MAGGIE HABERMANMARCH 26, 2016
Mr. Trumps views, as he explained them, fit nowhere into the recent history of the Republican Party: He is not in the internationalist camp of President George Bush, nor does he favor President George W. Bushs call to make it the United States mission to spread democracy around the world. He agreed with a suggestion that his ideas might be summed up as America First.
Not isolationist, but I am America First, he said. I like the expression. He said he was willing to reconsider traditional American alliances if partners were not willing to pay, in cash or troop commitments, for the presence of American forces around the world. We will not be ripped off anymore, he said.

I agree 100%. I say kick their ass out of NYC. They use our biggest city to break into our INTEL, out major nets etc. The UN forces have been a disgrace almost everywhere a blue helmet stood.
100% America first.
It will be the first time in 50 GD years.
Go Trump!
rest of the world couldn’t begin to pay the United States back...sick of all of them...go Trump..
“...rest of the world couldnt begin to pay the United States back..”
And here’s where I disagree with Cruz’s plan to get rid of the IRS:
We should send the IRS to go collect from all the countries that owe us.
They’re quite good at it, and it would keep them busy, and off honest American’s backs.
Only freebees are when it directly affects our vital national security interests. Otherwise, you pay up.
America first. Sounds good to me.
Thank you President Trump! You will make our country great again - I know it!
You forgot to add.... and we sell them weapons, and then they use OUR weapons against US! THAT needs to end (selling weapons to non-allies).
You mean no more payoffs to corrupt politicians in foreign countries so that US businesses can make money in foreign markets? YES!
America First. What a novel idea. I agree.
I see no issue with this. This kind of attitude drew me to Trump in the first place.
Imagine if we decided to have the Japs make all of our stuff in the 1930s, where would we have been?
“Get the UN out of the US!.”
Excellent idea, and let the country it winds up in fund the majority of its budget! What do we pay today, something like 75%???
I like how the NYT says “America comes first” as if it was some sort of bad thing, or like it was some kind of novel new concept that they’ve never heard of before.
No, it’s not our government’s to give in the first place, the USA needs to come first and stop paying welfare to multitudinous nations.
True, rather than help we often turn the multitudinous seas incarnadine, as the man said.
I had to go look up incarnadine; interesting term. I haven’t had much exposure to Shakespeare, so this was completely new to me.
Precisely what I keep trying to tell people. If China gets their act together with long-range force projection the free world is in heap big trouble; our ‘spooling up’ period for large scale production alone would be 10 years according to at least 20 different economic and military experts I’ve talked to because our manufacturing capacity is just gone. That’s twice as long as WW2 LASTED.
Now imagine something similar happening in 1940. We declare war on the Axis and the President gets told next week that it’s 10 years before any significant amount of ships or planes or tanks rolls off the line, even to replace what we just lost at Pearl. A few losses later and the Japanese could send peace envoys to roam the streets handing out free tea samples and paper fans to the west coast, backed up by a couple destroyers looming on the horizon, and we couldn’t do jack sh!t about it.
Wow - you got me, I’ve been hanging here for 14 years for the chance to make comments against your candidate.
Or - perhaps I read, and only occasionally post. I hope you don’t make a living reading minds, you aren’t very good at it.
“...perhaps I read, and only occasionally post.”
VERY occasionally, I’d say. I thought you were a n00b until I checked your sign up date.
Whatever caused you to think I was reading your mind? I charge big bucks for that.
