During Wednesday's oral arguments for the Little Sisters of the Poor's lawsuit against the mandate accommodation, Chief Justice John Roberts asked Solicitor General Donald Verrilli whether or not the administration could apply to churches the same the requirement it applies to religious nonprofit organizations.
"I think we could ... Your Honor, Yes ... I think we would," Verrilli answered. "It would be an appropriate accommodation, and I think if we had the same compelling interest, and we'd make the same narrowly tailored means argument."
"But we have constrained ourselves," Verrilli continued. "We've tried to be especially careful with houses of worship. And that's a normal thing that governments do with respect to houses of worship."
For conservative lawyers, Verrilli's assertion that the administration could force churches to abide by the accommodation if it really wanted to was the big eye opener that resulted from the arguments.
"That was the bombshell of the morning," Family Research Council senior fellow in legal studies Cathy Ruse told The Christian Post Thursday. "If this administration thinks it has the constitutional authority to force churches a Baptist church, a Catholic Church to put contraception and abortifacients in their health plans for their employees against their will, provided they take the steps the government says they must take, that is huge."

Satan wants everybody complicit in baby killing.
Let’s see him force it on mosques.
Can they force Mosques to do so too? I doubt they would even consider it. Equal protection under the law is supposed to be the US way of life.
Justice Roberts is on the Dark side.
He wrote this mess into Law and he knew it would hurt godly people.
Despicable.
Yes it's huge...the start of government control over reproduction?
Freedom is lost when citizens stop taking responsibility for them selves and allow government to do it for them. ..
An overused word but it applies exactly - Fascist.
Can you imagine the horror of Jesus as he hung on the cross with full knowledge of all the sins of man. It is my personal belief that the pain of all of man’s sins was worse than the physical suffering he endured. Lets not forget that Satan has lost. Obama is powerless against the goodness and love of God.
“But we have constrained ourselves,”
That could be one of the most frightening statements ever made by a government representative. The royal “we” that claims it has some sort of divine authority over the people but chooses to constrain itself out of noble compassion is everything this country fought against at its inception.
More than fascist - they have control over our lives via existential situations - access to your very life’s continuation through medicine, and long term control of your work choices and environment through the notion that government can control the weather and climate via legislation and taxation.
Careful in overstating “Satan has lost”.
There continue to be souls lost to Satan every day.
We work with the Power and Mercy of Christ to minimize that number.
I don’t think there is an “ism” that is coined yet to cover these new forms of control - “progressivism” is too vague and is a misnomer.
They pretty much do what they want with impunity, with little push back. We are always on defense and failing miserably.
I think Trump is the best choice if we are going to halt and lay bare some of the dangerous directions occurring in our government - a defiant incredulity can be a most profound reaction to controls coined by an entrenched elitocracy.
Jesus Christ with His death on the cross did in fact defeat Satan. To say otherwise is to give the devil power he doesn’t have. Without Christ’s suffering man would be eternally separated from God. Humans with free will can choose death of course, but to claim anything other than victory on the cross gives Satan more relevance than he is due.
There continue to be souls lost to Satan every day.

Get it?
You give the dead soul Roberts too much credit. He did as he was told to do by those holding his blackmail file. ... And they can pull his strings anytime they want to.
Of course I get it. I only wish not to minimize the significance of the victory of Christ on His Cross. Without it there would be no hope for us at all.
