What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

I’ll vote for Cruz or trump . And , yes , all the vitriol for conservatives is disgusting . But what really ticks me off is there is no longer any “ news” at FR . Just fighting .

Thank you Jeff. Wise words.

If Trump was just promising things he had no intention of enacting, he would not have brought Sessions on to his campaign as an adviser and point man on illegal immigration, nor Carson as adviser and point man on getting rid of bamstercare.

Two examples (of many) of just how serious he is.

I once preferred Cruz, and now prefer Trump. There are good solid reasons for that change, and I wouldn't call them "populist".

Katwoman, you should rethink, along with other sane Cruz supporters such as Jeff. This nomination is virtually all over but the shouting, and if Cruz is smart, he will bargain for a position at the table with Trump, rather than side with the traitorous elites of the GOP.

I can assure you that I for one am extremely conservative and I am for Trump. I am an excellent judge of character and I am not being fooled by anyone. You can continue to tote the line that he donated to Democrats in the past but that does not sway me one bit. If my business was in NY, I would probably donate to Dems as well. You have to in NY!. But he donated more to Republicans that democrats...look it up.

Also, none of the issues that most conservatives have been demanding over the years would not even be talked about if it were not for Trump. I heard no mention of a wall from anybody until Trump made it his candidacy position. Most would not be talking about trade if it were not for Trump. So yes, I am for Trump because he brought these issues to the limelight and not afraid to promote it whereby others fear due to PC.

I see videos from more than 20 years ago where Trump is being very conservative in his talking points.

Look at the remaining candidates including Cruz. Yes, he is a true conservative, but he is establishment more than he admits. Just look at his campaign in the last few weeks and see who is onboard, and who is providing the dollars.

Finally, after seeing all the Conservative groups and Liberal groups alike attack Trump the way they do, I am 100% secure in my support for Trump and that he is the right man at the right time. I judge candidates by who supports or attacks them for their stances on issues.

A wall is not going to be built. Until CONGRESS is changed, nothing will change. Donald Trump is not going to change Congress, he will make deals. And Congress is not building a wall.

And the hate and low information. Earlier on another thread dealing with Chuck Grassley saying there would be no SC nominee hearing, a poster called him turtle face.

A more knowledgeable FReeper pointed out that Grassley was not McConnell.

The snappy reply was “what should I call him then cowface?”

The poster didn’t know who Grassley was and obviously didn’t know that Grassley had done something I thought FReepers wanted. Nevertheless the cowface poster’s default reaction was name calling. Sounds like low information to me.

We all know that there is much that stinks in D.C. The odor is exceedingly putrid. And, we want it cleaned up. We also are not so naive to think that the stench can be scrubbed clean, but we believe that it can be made more easy on the nostrils.

Question: Who better to clean it up than the one who has utilized the process and knows how it works, who is causing the stink?

There's an old adage, 'it takes a thief to catch one'.

Meaning, once again the person who knows how the problem works is the one to eliminate the problem.

Guys like Mark Levin like to over intellectualize the term “Populism” into a pejorative. The were all for Joe Bag lunch voting for guys like Jeff Sessions, Mike Lee and Ted Cruz. Once Joe Bag Lunch went off the reservation and saw the writing on the wall that a loaf of stale bread like Cruz was unelectable the intellectual elites in the conservative movement, the guys at Nation Review, and conservative talk radio turned on them. They really do thing we are stupid and uninformed.

I would have liked to support Cruz, but unfortunately besides having connections to Goldman Sachs (i.e. corrupt to the bone), he's not a natural-born citizen.

Full disclosure: I'm not a Republican (Burnt my card years ago), Democrat, Conservative and/or Populist.

I'm an A-M-E-R-I-C-A-N that knows that the USofA was created under Natural Law to be a Democratic Republic .

Also an Idaho transplant twenty some years ago...

And I firmly believe Trump will do just just what he says... To not do so would severely diminish his “brand” and negatively impact his family empire.

The constitutional conservative voting for TPA which ensured TPP would happen? The Constitutional conservative down at the border handing out soccer balls to invading Mexicans?
He isn’t the second Reagan. At best he is just another politician, beholden to Goldman Sachs, who will break our way most times.
But he isn’t as effective of a leader as Trump.

Yep, thanks for your POV, I agree.

When I see someone post that Cruz is not conservative, it makes me cringe. Perfect, of course not, nobody is, but about as close as one is going to see now days.
