What has happened to Free Republic? [What difference at this point can it possibly make?]

Posted on 03/17/2016 3:13:11 PM PDT by katwoman5779

Since Obuma was elected to POTUS, I have been coming to Free Republic to get news, opinions and a few laughs. Most of the serious posts were bemoaning the out of control government and what could be done about it. "Oh Whoa is Me!". Then along comes a constitutional conservative. For the first time since Ronald Reagan, we have a constitutional candidate running for the GOP nomination. This man was elected by conservatives to go to Washington and stand up to the elites that no longer listen to the American people. He didn't go to Washington and "fall in" with the crowd. He went there and stood up to them just like he said it would - calling a spade a spade. I'm sorry, but I don't understand how otherwise intelligent people can fall for the likes of Donald Trump. This man was donating to the same people we were fighting to throw out of office the last eight years. Suddenly he is a conservative after years of joining with the liberals to promote big fat bloated government. He is not an outsider. He has been greasing the palms of the slime bags in Washington for 30 years. He can't even define what conservatism is. Wake up America. You are no better than the sycophants that suck up to Obuma. You can't see that Trump is just pushing your buttons with his rhetoric - just like Obuma pushed his sycophants buttons. The hate I see on Free Republic for Ted Cruz, Mark Levin and all the other great conservative leaders remind me of liberal websites. It is disgusting.

I loathe Trump but I’ll vote for him for the following reasons; Dole, Bush I, McCain, Bush II and Romney. Someone has to throw a cherry bomb into the GOP-e’s punchbowl and I don’t see a better way than to elect the Horse’s Ass Trump and let him destroy as much of the unresponsive republican party establishment as possible. Cruz is a good man and if there is ever a responsive party behind him, I’ll be happy to vote for him.

I am where you are. I don't see the intelligence or conservatism that so many impute to Trump ("Trump will do X, Y and Z" ,"Trump will take care of all of that when he gets in office"). I think a lot of it is wishful thinking, but what else have we got? Ted Cruz has disappointed in many ways, and the rest were never anything but democrat lite and more of the same uniparty big government turds that put us twenty trillion in debt and put the middle class on life support.

So let Trump go into the china shop and knock the display cases over. He may be the best thing ever for conservatives or their biggest letdown. This is the big Doug Flutie "Hail Mary" pass for this country. There is no time to wait for another.

I totally agree with you but I’m not going to read the posts.

Zombies are swarming all over Free Republic now and I can’t associate with them for my mental health.

They even attacked Jim Robinson for trying to work out a compromise.

Good luck but I’m outta here.

My apologies gundog, I didn't read the OP as closely as I should have.

LOL, that happens to me now and then. Well played.

—”Oh Whoa is Me!”.—

I believe you mean “Oh Woe is me”.

Cruz decided to give obama fast track authority to ‘negotiate’ the Trans Pacific Partnership Agreement, which is about as globalist as you can get. Globalism and conservatism are diametrically opposed.

Although he supposedly backtracked on it, he thinks increasing the H1B visa program by 500% is a good thing. This at a time when US unemployment is at depression levels.

He sleeps, literally, with a managing director of Goldman Sachs, who is also a CFR member. The GOPe may not like Cruz, but they’re clearly on the same team.

Trump cares deeply about America, and has the intestinal fortitude to put the right people in the right positions and make this country the home of the brave and the land of the free once again.

Cruz is hardly a conservative.

I don’t disagree, but after 30 years of establishment, enough is enough. Cruz may not be establishment, but he isn’t a distant cousin either.

I wish we had a candidate called Truz or Crump. One with Trumps fire and Cruz knowledge.

Right now, Trump has fire. That trumps (pardon the pun), knowledge. People are tired of the same old same old.

You mean like the Democratic Underground?

There is a big difference between DU and FreeRepublic. DU rallies around ALL their candidates while FR members go out of their way to destroy any of our candidates who do not meet their OWN purity standards of alleged "conservatism"......whatever the hell that means.

In the words of Pogo:

Here's the typical response to anyone posting comments in favor of their own candidate by those who don't agree with them...........And to think we're all supposed to be on the same side.......LOL!

Senator Cruz’s dual citizenship with Canada until May, 2014, sort of dampens my enthusiasm for him as a presidential candidate.

Donald Trump's fealty to Democrat policies has dampened my enthusiasm for him even more.

Does a constitutional Conservative vote to increase H-1B visas by 500%.

I’m with you! I’m for Cruz.

My husband is foe Trump. He also voted for Perot, and I didn’t.

It’s strange around here these days.

As you can see from my posting history, I agree that our first order of business is:

DEFEAT THE UNIPARTY!

Trump can do that fine, so I can vote for him.

I’d prefer a more doctrinaire conservative like Cruz, so I will support him through the Primaries.

But the #1 goal, we share. We cannot have a Liberal Democrat Party and the SAME Liberal Republican Party joining hands to defeat conservatism and the people at every turn.

DEATH TO THE UNIPARTY!

That is number 1 wrong point which got us to this point. You act like deals are a negative. Deals are great if they are positive for the country. Gosh maybe for once congress may do something. Boy that would be rare. Deals are fantastic is they are good for the country. Keep that in mind.

The so called Christian base has split and as the Bible has said the people have chosen to have their ears tickled instead of putting on the whole armor of God. Voting for a man who is proud to say he has never ask God for anything makes Trump a non Christian...but seemingly not important to the majority of folk in our land. Cruz is rejected because of his strong Christian beliefs and no other reason, no matter how they spin it.
