CNN/ORC Poll: Trump, Clinton leading in Florida, Ohio (Ohio - Trump 41, Kasich 35, Cruz 15)
CNN ^ | March 9, 2016 | Eric Bradner

Washington (CNN)—Donald Trump is leading two of his Republican presidential rivals in their home states, topping Sen. Marco Rubio in Florida and Gov. John Kasich in Ohio, new CNN/ORC polls show.

Hillary Clinton, meanwhile, is far ahead of Vermont Sen. Bernie Sanders in both states.

In Ohio, Trump holds 41% to Kasich's 35%, with Texas Sen. Ted Cruz in third at 15% and Rubio in fourth with 7%.

And in Florida, Trump holds 40% to Rubio's 24%, with Cruz at 19% and Kasich at 5%.

The results come less than a week from the March 15 contests in Florida and Ohio, as well as Illinois, North Carolina and Missouri. The primaries in 99-delegate Florida and 66-delegate Ohio are particularly critical for Republicans, since both are winner-take-all.

Yep.

It doesn’t seal the deal for him, but it puts it on a glide path.

I looked at Cruz’s numbers and he has no path to 1237 delegates to outright win the nomination.

Quick, anti-Trumpers, read the CBS/WSJ ‘polls’ instead, you’ll feel much better....according to them Rubio is the sure winner everywhere.

If Rubio cannot win his home state of FL he needs to drop.

Not a “scientific poll” by any means but a straw poll we took here in a Western NC town a couple days ago had Cruz coming out on top.

Anecdotally, the women in these parts don’t like Trump’s “aggressiveness” and that he’s “too mean.”

We’ve seen the poll games being played to the max.

After tonight’s debate — at which the establishment will pick out something they consider AWFUL about Trump — they will viciously and maliciously hound it in the media and via attack ads between now and the primary in Ohio and Florida.

That way they will INFLUENCE the so-called ‘outsiders don’t choose Trump’ argument.

Trump needs to fight that somehow. It’s on him. I assume he knows it by now and has a strategy in place.

Ohio truly is a tipping point. If he can take both Ohio and Florida, he is on a much, much easier glide path to winning the nomination prior to the convention.

This could very quickly become a two-man race, with one contender having a distinct advantage in numbers and in overall name recognition.

Ted Cruz, love him and all, is clearly the underdog going into the end stretch. Of the two, Ted is more nearly “Republican”, despised that he is by the Republican Establishment, and that would be a death sentence, except that his direct remaining rival is The Donald, who can excite more emotion per second than most of the Republican Establishment can stand. His very presence causes multiple exploding heads, and they do not know how to stuff the contents back in and close up the gaping wound.

The Republican Establishment has a choice of two - accept the current state of affairs, that they do not have their favorite in the fight any longer, and support The Donald, Ted Cruz, or a combination of the two as the final ticket for the 2012 election. Otherwise, turn upon the voters that put The Donald and Ted Cruz at the head of the list that voters WOULD support, and run a negative campaign against both them, GUARANTEEING that Herself, the very worst candidate the Democrats have ever resurrected and pushed with all the flagging vigor they could muster, ascends to the office, and shall make the darkest days of Richard Nixon look like Glory, Hallelujah and Jubilee.

For however much that Herself may have claimed to hate, despise and loathe our 37th President, she is certainly trying to to emulate and exceed his blunders in office in every way Herself can imagine.

I would prefer to see him stay in and siphon votes off of others.

I think he’ll have to be bought off to get out.

If one is a Trump supporter, would probably like to see a bigger edge in Ohio at this point if the trend of day of voters moving away from Trump hold true there, but regardless, that he leads and has broken 40% in Ohio is not insignificant. I think he wins there by a hair, but a Kasich win would not be a surprise.

Possible that by the end of next Tuesday Trump will have extended his lead in delegate count to north of 250.

I think that is the case everywhere. Many women and religious people are turned off by Trump's "alpha male" demeanor. They would prefer their politicians to be smooth and polished. I know that Trump is losing many of those voters with his bombastic style. Ultimately I think Trump will win most of them back for the general.

My guess is that Trump feels that he needs to take this approach to get through the primaries and that he'll smooth out his rough edges after his nomination is secure.

I agree with you.

Moreover, ANY self-proclaimed conservative voter who says he prefers Mrs. Clinton to Trump is lying about being conservative. There is no other rational conclusion possible.

But the FoxNews poll this morning had Kasich a mile ahead of Trump in Ohio.

LOL

I’ve looked at it.

He can lose Ohio and he still has a very clear path to the nomination prior to the convention.

Arizona + Indiana, Nebraska, South Dakota, or Montana would more than make up for Ohio, none of which I currently have in Trump’s column.

I have IN for Trump, and Trump has led in AZ, but I haven’t put that in Trump’s column.

Primaries in Ohio, Illinois and Missouri are open. Should help Trump with Reagan Democrats who don’t want to vote for a socialist or someone who reminds them of their Ex.
