Maine Gov. Paul LePage, who endorsed Donald Trump for president last Friday, claimed on Wednesday that Ted Cruz, like his Canadian-born daughters, is ineligible to be the president.
Asked on The Howie Carr Show why he endorsed Trump over Ted Cruz, LePage replied, Very simple. Its very simple. I am the most conservative governor that there is. Hes a first time senator. Hes not ready. Number one. Number two is I also have two daughters who were born in Canada. They had to be naturalized. They couldnt be natural. And so, I have a question there.
I am going to the Republican caucuses in Maine on Saturday.
Governor LePage said he hopes to attend as many as he can-there are 22 across the state. I hope he comes to mine. :)
FYI
So get a grip, ok?
I'm not connected in any special way, but have a friend who has a non-political job around LePage, so can speak to him as just a regular guy ... salt of the earth, loves Maine, just wants to help people.
Codswaddle. Ted Cruz was a US citizen at birth and did not need to be naturalized. He needed NO official act of the US government whatsoever.
I don't know about the Lepage daughters; specifically I don't know why they would have had to be naturalized; perhaps their parents were not US citizens. If so, they were not US Citizens by birth and would not be eligible to serve as President.
Donald Trump has also said Cruz is eligible to be president. Does anyone know Trump's most recent position on this matter?
I mean in the last few minutes.
You don’t have any memory of people questioning Obama’s eligibility?
A couple of courts have already spoken on the issue.
So, nice try stirring up a settled pot.
You said...
“Those that believe Cruz is not eligible for the office of President, only think that because the Donald said so. None of you long term FReepers ever mentioned it prior to trump.”
Bears repeating. And it seems alot here have given up alot because Donald said so
In fact,in that link posted by 2DV, not one disagreed that Cruz was eligible.
So was Cruz reborn in that time in Canada?
Wasn’t a challenge to Cruz’s eligibility thrown out in a court already? Think I recall reading that somewhere
” I don’t know about the Lepage daughters; specifically I don’t know why they would have had to be naturalized; perhaps their parents were not US citizens. If so, they were not US Citizens by birth and would not be eligible to serve as President. “
Look again... Cruz’s parent(s) were not US citizens either. It’s quite clear that his father wasn’t, and that’s the parent that counts, and even his mother is questionable since it is said that she became a Canadian citizen.
He is term limited out so he is done in 2020.
But he took a morbid,Rhino, GOPe Republican Party and won big in 2012. First time since 1962 I believe that the Republican part held the state house, state senate, and governorship.
hes doing fine in Texas
I didn’t recall that said I was supporting Trump. Just that I am going and yes I am a fan of Paul LePage.
oops
didn’t recall that I said ...
Sure. But Obama isn't the subject here. I don't recall old time FReepers questioning Cruz's eligibility prior to trumps rise.
So what? My observation.
Don't like it....tough. I'm sick of you “gotcha” people. This is only the primary, and my opinion is as valid as you Think yours is.
Just used your post for reply, sorry, should have said as much :)
LePage is simply wrong. One has to naturalize your kinds born in another country only if you dont want that country to have a legal claim on them. My first son was born in Portugal, and I was advised to have him naturalized because of the murky relationship between American and Portuguese law at that time, that they might give them some claim on MY property since he was my heir. Law is weird enough inside one country. Gets real weird with two. For me the matter is simple to which sovereign does the mother owe obedience at the time of his birth?
LePage was living and working in Canada, married to a Canadian woman (whom he later divorced), and his daughters were born there. That’s a different situation than Cruz.
That’s not true, there was discussion around Cruz’s eligibility since he made it clear he would be running. It was just not a public discussion until Trump.
What papers did Cruz use to get an US passport? It is NOT hard to demonstrate his case if he has one... Surely you are not NOW claiming, Cruz used his Canadian birth certificate to get a US passport now are you?
