CHARLESTON, S.C.
Things sure look good for Donald Trump.
The Republican presidential race expanded across the country Sunday, and polls show the real estate mogul ahead in eight of the dozen states voting in the next nine days.
Trump has now won primaries in two very different states, center-right New Hampshire and evangelical-dominated South Carolina. And the Republican Party system of choosing a presidential nominee favors candidates who continue to win early primaries and caucuses.
âHe seems to have about a third of the Republican electorate under his spell, and itâs a durable, non-ideological coalition,â said Kyle Kondik, managing editor at Larry Sabatoâs Crystal Ball Sunday.
The biggest hope for stopping Trump is for a single strong challenger to emerge, and so far that hasnât happened.
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., finished second Saturday in South Carolina, but he was 10 percentage points behind Trump and barely edged Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, even though Rubio barnstormed the state with popular Gov. Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C.
Rubio also lacks an obvious state where he can win in the next few weeks. He should be a favorite in Tuesdayâs Nevada caucus. Rubio lived in Las Vegas as a child, was a church member, and Sunday picked up the endorsement of Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nevada. But a CNN/ORC poll last week showed Trump with a huge lead, with more support than Rubio and Cruz combined.

Amazingly ironic, isn’t it?
Thanks! I was hoping you would. I’ll come up with more later. Maybe something like trumpxists, but that might be a little esoteric for a trumpthread.
The Trump thing started when he amazed and thrilled us by taking on the media and saying things we’d wanted to hear.
He also played big on our resentment of illegals who drain our resources and take jobs away from Americans.
So he had his base right there.
It was also a result of Magic Thinking.
Trump supporters convinced themselves that Trump was the Magic Daddy who would make all things right.
They refused to look at any negative history of Trump or any unsettling opinions he voices or has voiced.
The Trump worship became so imbedded that it has become a part of them.
So I don’t think any Trump support will fade or at the most ten percent.
But I don’t think it will grow either.
So it all depends on who gets the votes of the three also rans and also what happens between Cruz and Rubio.
The Trumpers have directed much of their hate at Cruz because he seemed the biggest threat.
Now we see a bigger threat ... one we thought had gone away.
He is the pet of the networks and the GOPe.
Maybe Cruz wasn’t so bad after all.
You’re putting a lot more faith in Trump than I have.
But, good luck on that.
So if Trump gets the Republican nomination, are you becoming a Trumpster?
So if a politician kicks a puppy it’s wrong.
But if Trump kicks a puppy.... the puppy deserved it?
Have I got that straight?
I have not used the term Trumpbots (which was used frequently to deride Ted Cruz).
But you can’t expect us to type out Trump supporters every time.
How about Trumpers?
Exactly right. We don’t know precisely how many democrats crossed over to vote for Trump but it is estimated that it was a large number... enough to make the difference.
So, one might wonder why the Dems want Trump so bad.
Maybe it is because he is the second most disliked person in America after Hillary.
Heck, we Cruz supporters won’t be giving up anytime soon.
:-)
No, you have it wrong. If a politician who promises not to kick puppies because of his beliefs, then goes ahead and kicks puppies anyway, then he has two sins, kicking puppies and hypocrisy. The guy who simply kicks puppies only has one sin. I know you can see the difference because you’ve always been a smart person. Altura, we’ve got to bury this hatchet and figure out a way forward.
How do you think is a way for Cruz supporters and Trump supporters to combine forces and keep Rubio out of the White House?
There’s been so much vitriol here, it wouldn’t be easy.
But why would one think that? Bill Clinton was popular with evangelicals. Many evangelicals aren/t as judgmental as some might believe. They love the sinner, but not the sin, and they strongly believe in forgiveness.
Luck has nothing to do with it.
Trump has a 40 year history of delivering.
In fact delivering is so important to him he included it in his most famous book.
You'll be cheering too. Maybe only behind closed and locked doors, but you'll be cheering.
So sin is weighed by who the sinner is? NY values? of course if Trump shot someone on the streets of NY ..Trumpsters would still support him. BTW, Trump is not a regular person.
Don't stop!
I agree. It won’t be easy. I haven’t figured it out yet. It’s going to be hard to do.
See #70
I am of the opinion that prior to Super Tuesday, the purpose of the caucuses is to eliminate the bottom tier of candidates. A “trend” only really starts for the top candidates after Super Tuesday. Having said all of that, if the polls hold true, my math shows that Trump goes into the convention with about 1300 delegates. Enough to avoid a floor fight.
The vast hard working middle class could not give rat’s rear end about Mark Sanford’s cheating on his wife. That is not what is hurting the middle class. The big problem is the cheap labor express of H1B visa workers, illegal immigrants, and one million legal immigrants every year.
The middle class is hurting and very angry at career politicians such as Bush, Rubio & Cruz. Because Trump has opened their eyes, by exposing how ultra-rich donors control the career politicians.
That is why Trump won in NH & SC and may have won Iowa if cheating and fraud was not committed in Iowa. When a bible thumper attempts to cheat Carson out of his votes, people understand that.
I will cheer if and when:
Trump gets the nomination, manages to win and fulfills one=third of his promises.
