CHARLESTON, S.C.
Things sure look good for Donald Trump.
The Republican presidential race expanded across the country Sunday, and polls show the real estate mogul ahead in eight of the dozen states voting in the next nine days.
Trump has now won primaries in two very different states, center-right New Hampshire and evangelical-dominated South Carolina. And the Republican Party system of choosing a presidential nominee favors candidates who continue to win early primaries and caucuses.
âHe seems to have about a third of the Republican electorate under his spell, and itâs a durable, non-ideological coalition,â said Kyle Kondik, managing editor at Larry Sabatoâs Crystal Ball Sunday.
The biggest hope for stopping Trump is for a single strong challenger to emerge, and so far that hasnât happened.
Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., finished second Saturday in South Carolina, but he was 10 percentage points behind Trump and barely edged Sen. Ted Cruz, R-Texas, even though Rubio barnstormed the state with popular Gov. Nikki Haley and Sen. Tim Scott, R-S.C.
Rubio also lacks an obvious state where he can win in the next few weeks. He should be a favorite in Tuesdayâs Nevada caucus. Rubio lived in Las Vegas as a child, was a church member, and Sunday picked up the endorsement of Sen. Dean Heller, R-Nevada. But a CNN/ORC poll last week showed Trump with a huge lead, with more support than Rubio and Cruz combined.

They tended to be over 55 and had worked in bureaucracies all their lives. They appreciated Trumpâs ability to cut through the rhetoric.
âIâm tired of all the political correctness,â said Isabel Romero, a former Army finance official. âHe appeals to your heart and he appeals to the middle class.â...........................Trump seems unstoppable!
Since when does yuge start with an “h”?
Nice article, but I disagree with characterizing this as a done deal by any stretch of the imagination. The political establishment will never, ever give up. We’re in for a long, vicious slog.
I can’t help but think that Mark Sanford’s endorsement damaged Cruz a bit with evangelicals.
Evangelicals don’t like cheating spouses. Further, Sanford proved to be an enormous a$$ when news of his infidelity broke.
Evangelicals donât like cheating spouses.
You mean like Trump ?
I always found this line of thinking so idiotic. Who would pick a candidate because they lived in their state as a child? Or whose wife is from the state? Or whose father-in-law owns a business in the state?
Create an atmosphere of invincibility on the outside while working your butt off on the inside...I think that’s what we’ll be seeing. Trump is a master negotiator and an expert at psy-ops, as Cruz learned much to his detriment. Trump will have no problem keeping Cabana-Boy’s head spinning faster than when Christie was smacking him around.
You’re right, but Trump’s a honey badger & he don’t care....going to be nasty for sure.
One would think.
It ain’t just the political establishment that wants Trump destroyed. Go read the Trump Hate posted over at the Liberal-Leftist websites. It’s only slightly more toxic than the Trump bashing here at FR.
47% of this country would be more than happy to live under Marxist tyranny and they view Trump as the reincarnation of Adolph Hitler. Of course there is no difference between Marxist tyranny and Fascist tyranny but hey, we’re dealing with liberals here.
Time for the GOPe to do something to sabotage Trump I bet
Don't bet on it. At heart, they're nothing but a bunch of self-serving, power clutching jackals, who will bend their knee to whatever master holds the crown - just as long as they believe they can find some small sliver of favor.
Trust me. In time, they'll all go begging to Trump with hat in hand.
Keep digging.
I’m sure that eventually you’ll find something that works.
BwHAHAHAHAH
Oh, how about using that red, yellow green twister chart? I always liked that one.
They’ve been trying...They don’t have a clue how to handle Trump...He’s not a politician...That’s all they’re used to...
Trump deprived Ted of winning any South Carolina county win with 5 paid staff and a two million dollar budget. Can’t wait till he trims the fat of federal waste like the Denver VA hospital that was supposed to cost 300 million but is running behind 10 years and is at 2.5 billion.
He is always ahead of schedule and under budget.
This is what I think is going to happen. The vast majority of GOPe simply do not have the strength of character to stay a philosophical course. Of course it doesn't help that they have no philosophical underpinnings save personal aggrandizement.
“Trust me. In time, they’ll all go begging to Trump with hat in hand.”
If Trump wins, that is EXACTLY what they will do. It’s the same thing they did when Reagan took them to the woodshed in 1980.
