Draft-Dodger Trump Said Sleeping Around Was My ‘Personal Vietnam’
The Daily Beast ^ | February 16, 2016 | Tim Mak

Draft-dodger Donald Trump once said that the danger he faced from getting sexually transmitted diseases was his own “personal Vietnam.” In a 1997 interview with shock jock Howard Stern, Trump talked about how he had been “lucky” not to have contracted diseases when he was sleeping around. “I’ve been so lucky in terms of that whole world. It is a dangerous world out there. It’s scary, like Vietnam. Sort of like the Vietnam-era,” Trump said in a video that resurfaced Tuesday on Buzzfeed, “It is my personal Vietnam. I feel like a great and very brave soldier.”

“I’m starting to think that many of his supporters might be jerks, too, because of the “who cares” attitude about him.”

If they had a “who cares” attitude, I could cut them a little slack. It’s the vitriol attitude they take that gets me. The full on attack when facts are pointed out. Being told that you are a liar when there is video proof. It goes on and on.
I’ve learned not to let it get to me as there are true fanatics out there who don’t listen to facts. They are fans. Fanatics. Whatever their person of interest says is a fact. Even when it is not.

I didn’t say he pocketed it...but it did go into HIS foundation. I don’t think much of it has gone OUT of his foundation.

That it was going into his foundation was NOT NOT NOT NOT NOT the impression he gave.

1 Samuel 8:6-9 (NIV)

But when they said, “Give us a king to lead us,” this displeased Samuel; so he prayed to the Lord. And the Lord told him: “Listen to all that the people are saying to you; it is not you they have rejected, but they have rejected me as their king. As they have done from the day I brought them up out of Egypt until this day, forsaking me and serving other gods, so they are doing to you. Now listen to them; but warn them solemnly and let them know what the king who will reign over them will claim as his rights.”

1 Samuel 12:9-13 (NIV)

“But they forgot the Lord their God; so he sold them into the hand of Sisera, the commander of the army of Hazor, and into the hands of the Philistines and the king of Moab, who fought against them. They cried out to the Lord and said, ‘We have sinned; we have forsaken the Lord and served the Baals and the Ashtoreths. But now deliver us from the hands of our enemies, and we will serve you.’ Then the Lord sent Jerub-Baal, Barak, Jephthah and Samuel, and he delivered you from the hands of your enemies all around you, so that you lived in safety.

“But when you saw that Nahash king of the Ammonites was moving against you, you said to me, ‘No, we want a king to rule over us’—even though the Lord your God was your king. Now here is the king you have chosen, the one you asked for; see, the Lord has set a king over you.

Read 1st Samuel to get the complete story..... Sometimes a leader is there because the people turned away from God.

Thanks for an honest and thoughtful reply.

I think Obama is God punishing us. That is similar to what you say.

I think Clinton would be a continuation of that punishment.

I think Trump could be a Nebuchadnezzar to tear down an old system that had become corrupt. That would make him a judgment, I suppose. But discipline is designed to help us grow.

I appreciate your positive outlook regarding Cruz, but he’s not winning, and Trump is winning.

I sense in my gut that God’s not finished disciplining us yet.

Yes, Cruz. For me Cruz or Trump. I’ll vote for either in the general. To me, Trump has the fire to light up the system. To kick butt and take names. I see Trump as a wrecking ball. He more closely mirrors my feelings toward the establishment.

Cruz came out first and I was excited for him. If he had come out with fire and brimstone toward illegal immigration as Trump did, things might be different.

To me, illegal immigration is the first most issue. As Trump says, without borders we have no country.

Trump may turn out to be a lying blowhard. If so, how is that different from all the other broken promises Republicans have delivered?

Well I guess some women are attracted to human gumball machines like Trump, especially if they have $4 billion gumballs. I am as attracted to Trump as I was to Bill Clinton. I find them both repugnant. I expect I might have to hold my nose and vote for Trump or Rubio but if one thinks that Trump is not a mafia type goon out for himself that is just naive. Trump gets off trying to be master of the universe but there is only one Master of the Universe, GOD. On the other hand Cruz is very likely a mafia type goon also but he is a constitutional lawyer who has shown enough cajones in this race to hold his own with the likes of Trump and handle the likes of the Clinton cabal. What I want is to elect my snake, which ever one it comes too, to eat the Clinton snake. I also seem to remember when Trump gets into trouble, he always calls a LAWYER to get him out of a sticky divorce, bankruptcy., etc.

>>the kind of public "repenting" Katieanna exprects Trump and others to perform.

Luke 17:1-4

17 Jesus said to his disciples: "Things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come. 2 It would be better for him to be thrown into the sea with a millstone tied around his neck than for him to cause one of these little ones to sin. 3 So watch yourselves.

"If your brother sins, rebuke him, and if he repents, forgive him. 4 If he sins against you seven times in a day, and seven times comes back to you and says, 'I repent,' forgive him."
NIV

Rebuke, Repent, Forgive

What did those words mean to Jesus when He said them?

“I honestly don’t care that he did not serve. I do care that he compared his life to that of a combat soldier.”

I agree 100%. Being a veteran, I understand that the military is not for everyone. Comparing yourself to someone who gives their life to their country in the sense of your sexual conquest is at the very least, very bad taste. Then again, no-one has ever blamed trump for Being very tasteful.

Thank you. I was primarily thinking about the Republican slate because I thought most at FR would be voting on that side of the aisle. I was already corrected wrt Lindsey Graham, so I was incorrect on that part, too.

[And what did Der Trumpenflipper mean when he boasted about that?]

Probably that he has a more active sex life.

But what does that have to do about public repentance?

Many times I wish I had volunteered and think it would have done me a lot of good.

I’m with you...it makes me wonder what kind of person I rally am, and how I might have responded to a crisis situation...

I had number 344; my draft board’s quota was up by the time it got to me...

If Trump did to me what Ivanna alleges, he would have more than his stupid scalp reduction to worry about. And I wouldn’t be bragging about how much he gets. There are plenty of women out there that will do anything for $40 let alone $4 billion. I mean look at what Monica was willing to do with you know who. Ewwwwwwwwwwwwww.

Step off your high holy horse long enough to realize Trump is the only candidate who can beat Hillary or Sanders.

I think he’s a great candidate, and will make a great President. But even if you are appalled that he’s had sex with lots of women, grow up and realize that there are more important issues at stake.

Uh-huh. He cares about vets, unless they’re NYC licensed sidewalk vendors who happen to be disabled vets. Then, he doesn’t want them anywhere near his properties.

Sounds rather like the liberals who love illegal aliens - as long as they’re not living in their neighborhoods, or the liberals who like those damned windmills - as long as they can’t see them from their houses.

“I had the ultimate deferment...... I was declared essential to the war effort”

That was true for many men of the so-called Greatest Generation including, initially, my father. In fact, the original purpose of the Selective Service Act of 1940 was to keep certain men (with skills critical to the preparation for war) out of the service. It was only well into the war (late 1943 or early 1944) when the number of eligible volunteers fell substantially short of the number of servicemen required by the military.
