Donald Trump, Republican Front-Runner, Wins Applause From Code Pink

It’s not every day that anti-war groups find themselves cheering on leading Republican presidential candidates. But, then again, this hasn’t been a presidential campaign that’s stuck to the script.

The morning after he called the Iraq War a huge misstep and argued that President George W. Bush lied to get the country into it, Donald Trump has earned praise from, of all places, Code Pink, the group best known for protesting the Iraq War and subsequent military interventions.

“I watched the debate last night and LOVED IT,” Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin said in an email.

Well then that depends on what you think is being violated.

There is no truth in politics, just reality. Furthermore, politicians are humans, which by nature and definition are flawed.

You work with what you know is the best candidate based on the principles of Conservatism promoted by Goldwater and Friedman and advanced by Reagan. Those principles are not “living and breathing” but to be used as a construct for basic liberty and personal freedoms.

You fight for them no matter what or when, even if that means just in your own life while living through a terrible time like the last seven years have been.

Compromise is not an option.

Trump is a little different because his “snake oil” bottles are empty. He has set them before We The People and asked “Please fill them for me.” In a few cases this has happened, hence things like the Trump-Sessions manifesto on the 2nd Amendment.

At this juncture the onus is on us (pun intended).

No truth in politics...

Can I request that this sink in real good??????????

We have to put truth INTO politics, or by all get out, all we can expect to see in it, is a big fat lie. And we will have been at fault.

Ahh, the canard that perfection is necessary to support a candidate.

An impossible task as humans are flawed beings. As I said, I'm supporting the one that has a dedicated history of fighting and promoting those principles of Conservatism that I believe in. Trump has no such history.

To look for perfection in any person is pure folly. To insist that unless a person is perfect you cannot believe in them is to ignore your own reflection.

I don’t think any answer I provide will satisfy you because you are looking for perfection in an imperfect world.

We are at fault from birth. The real job is to work everyday to correct that.

Politics will never achieve that.

If, God forbid, Trump were elected, within 18 months it will be abundantly clear to even his most ardent supporters that he is not equipped for the job.

I don’t see that happening, because if Trump is the nominee, we will likely end up with a President Bernie Sanders. Trump would be a horrible general election candidate. His emotional immaturity and general lack of depth on the issues will be glaring and he will not carry much more than 40% of the vote.

We can certainly fix upon a perfect God as our compass and anchor. That is not the same thing as expecting current perfection out of people, and you even jolly well know it... you are just giving out excuses.

To clarify further, politics is a medium. Like all mediums it can serve to further either truth or falsehood.

Sleight-of-hand games, like what I have been seeing here, are an excellent way to make it further falsehood.

Trump’s power, or lack thereof, will reside largely in the advisors (and advice) he assembles. He is pursuing a different model than the common politician, which realization seems to be very slow to get through a lot of thick heads here. He is here to be a midwife of ideas to make America great. He has always told us so, though not using the word midwife. (Socrates used it, however. And got poisoned to death for his trouble. The society didn’t like what he birthed from them.)

And therein is a warning. If “conservatives” (whatever that means) happen to fold their arms and pout, especially during these critical early months, what Trump assembles is going to look “liberal” and there will be nothing but self fulfilling prophecy to thank for that.

I agree with you. I was about 60 / 40 in favor of the Iraq war at the time mainly because of the fear of hussein having nukes. With hindsight it was better to leave hussein in power. However trump’s position is absurd. Had hussein tried to assassinate HIS brother Trump would done the same thing as dubya.

Levin once said, “Conservatism is not definable.”

I disagreed, but do have to admit that most folks have some overlapping issues that others don’t use to define Conservatism. Do in a sense Levin was right.

So asking Trump this question, is asking him a trick question. And why even bother answering it? Trump says good things every day, and folks look for the one thing they think provides a gotcha moment.

As for Jimmy Carter, he has displayed over decades that he has no common sense when it comes to personalities. The Ayatollah he helped bring to power, to Fidel Castro, te Chavez, to the leaders of North Korea, Carter is bosom buddies with the lot of them. So you rest your case on his support or non support for Trump, knowing full well he will never vote for him. Really?

He did not waffle on defunding the abortion side of PP. When he finds out that’s all they do, guess what...

You know, go ahead and think the forum has gone of the deep end. That’s what you need to believe.

I think just to keep in mind that the picture is dynamic, is one of the biggest steps we can take towards sanity. Nobody is frozen in stone, not even Ted Cruz. Treating people as though they were, or even worse, as though they were expected to be, is to lower people to the status of icon or idol or image.

Trump is my clear early favorite. It could change, but if it does, it won’t because someone is “more conservative.” It will because someone did a better job of letting the light of God through his or her life. I’d dearly like to tell Ted Cruz that showing the face of God is an excellent idea; why not do it?

Endorsing Planned parenthood ALONE would rule Trump out for me. I will not decide on wh to vote for on the R ticket until the day I vote. Too many surprises. And unlike some, I find myself unable to make such a serious commitment to soemone until the last possible moment. Whoever it is, it will be my best choice as of voting day. It will NOT be someone who gives aid and comfort to my enemies or someone who endorses “the good works of Planned Parenthood.” They do no good works. EVER. They are the creation of some malevolence that I can not describe, but that I know is among us.
