Itâs not every day that anti-war groups find themselves cheering on leading Republican presidential candidates. But, then again, this hasnât been a presidential campaign thatâs stuck to the script.
The morning after he called the Iraq War a huge misstep and argued that President George W. Bush lied to get the country into it, Donald Trump has earned praise from, of all places, Code Pink, the group best known for protesting the Iraq War and subsequent military interventions.
âI watched the debate last night and LOVED IT,â Code Pink co-founder Medea Benjamin said in an email.

No, you are electing Hillary.
Don't be daft. The CIA said they had them. The British said they had them. The French said they had them. The Germans said they had them. The Israelis said they had them. Even the mumbling-bumbling UN had cataloged the chemical weapons. Syria has used WMDs as documented by even CBS and a report just last week claims that even ISIS has WMDs. I don't know what Saddam did with them, but he had them.
Maybe they're all from the same stockpile?
“Vladimir Putin, Paul Krugman, Elizabeth Warren, Jimmy Carter, Code Pink. An impresseive list of endorsements for Donald Trump, donât you think?”
Very.
Freaking hell! The H word! This really does feel like I’m talking to a bunch of libs on Free Republic now. This is getting bizarro!
Wow, your distortions. There comes a point when it is useless to argue, and you have become such an “opponent.”
Your whole point boils down to:
“Lefty said X. Therefore X is true (because reasons). Why do you support a Candidate when Lefty said X about him?”
So if someone you dont like agrees with Cruz on something, are you going to switch your support to someone else?
No? Well ok then.
“And no, I’m not for war with Syria and neither is Cruz.”
Oh, so you agree with Code Pink?
Fake conservatives. (that’s your logic)
Yep, and we should step back and ask why we are talking in this manner.
“Conservatism” has turned into an image, an icon, an idol. It has ceased to be about evaluating any idea for its inherent merit. Those who cling the most fiercely to it show the most shallowness, and their replies reflect that shallowness.
It seems that World War I may have started this—*making the world safe for democracy*. We have got to get off this Superman kick. We have to be more judicious about which wars we fight especially in the Middle East. Some people seem to think that Russia is still the enemy. It may be but then again it might not be. We don’t have to get involved in every conflict.
It is handy to have a President in your back pocket if you are having some problems with the law.
I am electing Trump.
Let’s review: you’ve went from a rhyme to a pseudo-religious dig to claiming liberals are right (qualified by ‘sometimes’) to finally settling on my alleged distortions without a single example because you don’t want to engage me over my specific remarks regarding Iraq or foreign policy whether it be Bush’s or Obama’s. Yes, I see the futility here! I do extend you an invitation to discuss the Iraq War or the resulting nation building debacle as it relates to a much larger problem just as I’m willing to engage over Obama’s foreign policy since you personally claim liberals are right (sometimes). I am an opponent to the extent that you are wrong here but I do feel like I’m up against a contrarian.
For all his evil Hussein protected the Christian population as Assad is doing. I could have an argument with the myself that I used to be ten years ago. It took me a long time to realize it but we were naïve to think that we could change the culture of Iraq.
He’s the Noam Chomsky/Cod Pink candidate.
Yeah, Hillary knows all about that!
What is this “Let’s” nonsense?
You can distort all you want. I won’t yield to your hypnotizing spell of lies.
Four presidents in a row have attacked Iraq. Maybe you and Trump don’t know it, but it’s become a problem that’s not caused by one president. And why doesn’t your man Trump ever attack the Democrats he was funding for so long who also said Saddam had chemical weapons and other WMD? He doesn’t because it’s all just an excuse to attack Republicans, whom he really hates. So if you cannot see through him that’s your problem. But adopting Code Pink and Obama’s naive view of Iraq, will only end up with you looking like you’re not keeping up with recent history or past. You’re stuck on blaming “W,” like Donald, Code Pink, and Democrats.
BUT - if they did support Cruz because of his previous Hb-1 stance, which made sense two years ago but not now, then yes I would start to question why that person/group would cross over.
If it were just one issue with Trump, we wouldn't be having this back and forth. But it's not, it's his entire world view in the case of Carter, it's his willingness to do deals just for deals sake with Lott and Dole, it's expanding Medicare Part D by forcing big Pharma to cut pricing with Bernie, it's keeping some funding for PP with the entire Left.
We Cruzers or whatever you want to call us (which is funny BTW) know that Cruz is flawed. I personally don't like the notion of VAT even though it's not a European VAT and hope he goes to a simple flat tax. But even so, his VAT rate is less than half of the current top business rate so it's not the worst thing.
I have yet to come across a Trump supporter who says anything against the candidate for his POSITIONS......forget his rhetoric which sometimes is incoherent.
Usually you get, “he'll build a wall” yet no reference to ‘touch back’ which is definitely his stance. Or he'll “repeal and replace Obamacare” with no reference to his Universal health care comments. Or just simply ignoring that he won't touch Social Security or Medicare/Aid because he doesn't see the need.
He's not a Conservative. Not even close.....no Conservative has ever been on the other side of so many plank many issues to have a “I've seen the light” moment like Trump.
Just the facts. I'll vote for him if he gets the nod, but not while there's a better, stronger Conservative in the race.
Almost as bad as Glen Beck. What is formidable is the number of endorsements that Cruz has gotten from his fellow senators (not sure but I bet it is a lot/s).
I like that “traditionbot”, Cruz really is stiff, I am getting sick of the type.
And again why are we talking in this manner, as though being an icon or an idol or an image is more important than doing what is actually the right thing?
This is a sure fire way to turn the concept of “conservative” into a joke.
