Bernie Sanders is 74. He grew up playing stickball in the streets of Brooklyn and watching a black-and-white television.
Yet this child of the 1940s, who says Franklin D. Roosevelt is his favorite president, has inspired a potent political movement among young people today.
Young voters' support for Mr. Sanders has created a quandary in Hillary Clinton's campaign headquarters in Brooklyn, where millennial staff members have tried to persuade their peers to back the former first lady.
The discomfort, and, in some cases hostility, toward Mrs. Clinton among young voters is striking. Some of them, feeling the pinch of economic hardship or the burden of college loans, suggest she is too cozy with big banks and corporate America. But polls also show they do not find her trustworthy.
Even those showing up to the Clinton campaign's youth-oriented events do not seem to be embracing her candidacy.
Last month in Iowa, Mrs. Clinton appeared at a joint rally in Iowa City with the 23-year-old pop star Demi Lovato. Like many college students in the crowd, Nate Weger, 20, said he was supporting Mr. Sanders but was not going to say no to a free Demi Lovato concert.

Confession time: I cast my first vote for George McGovern. That’s right. He was my first. This “feel the Bern” phenomenon among the 18-35 crowd reminds me of that. I wouldn’t underestimate the power of that factor in Democratic party politics. However, the general election is another matter altogether.
I have no idea.
LOL, she is actually. She just wears a wig so no one will recognize her.
They are not “Young Democrats.” They are young socialists, at best.
Damnit! You beat me to it. “Polish and poise” - like fingernails on a blackboard...
Somebody really needs to run some political ads that explain in simple terms-for simple minds-that there is no more of other people’s money to spend if all those evil Wall street guys just pack up, leave and go someplace else to set up shop-when there are no jobs there are no wages to tax, meaning no handouts to the non-productive.
She tries to appear congenial and good-natured (and one suspects has had more coaches than Algore) but her innate evil and obligate dishonesty always reveal themselves.
One not need to look very hard. It's just there.
.
Hillary is polished?
close with this
America, THIS is what your Government run health care looks like. Do you really want THIS to be your children's ONLY choice for Health Care?
No. She is Polish. Get glasses! ;)
Bernie can put one billion dollars per year to help pay tuition, and the end result would be tuitions collectively going up a billion dollars per year
To the average Bernie voter, watching black-and-white television is their definition of “roughing it”.
I was young once but I was never that ignorant.
Sure, but “young socialists” are still idealists. Hillary is much too cynical to appeal to idealists.
As much as I hate Marxism, the Marxists are the mirror image of us conservatives. They are the idealistic warriors of their party, the ones who would rather lose an election than elect a moderate politician who doesn’t adhere to their ideals. We are disgusted with Boehner and McConnell and Jeb, and these young socialists are just as disgusted with Hillary.
Who is Yamiche Alcindor? Any relation to Murdock, the copilot?
Hillary!’s what?
Yeah, shined, like with a cloth.
That was my reaction too, but I'd be about #20 to say the same thing as you.
